Im hoping to app for the BCP in January. As I was looking through the benefits. I noticed it says the 6% cash back is for 'stand alone' grocery stores. What counts as stand alone? The closest and pretty much only grocery store I shop at is Wally World (Walmart). Would this count?

I believe they are referring to places like stop & shop, giant, waldbaums etc. Not places like Target and Walmart.

Yeah.. Ive heard on here that Walmart/Target count as Department Stores. I think Kroger counts. I try to avoid Walmart if at all possible. Lol

Target actually shows up as GROCERIES on my credit card statements...it used to be listed as something else. I think that would still count toward your cash back if you used your card there.

I'm pretty sure AmEx has a listing of what MCCs they consider to be Grocery Stores. Some Target's/Walmart's are counted in the grocery bin, some arent, I think you can look up what your store is here: http://visa.via.infonow.net/locator/usa/supplier/NewSearch.do

hmm my local walmart GROCERY STORES/SUPERMARKETS/BAKERIES this sounds promising, and even if it gets listed as a department store it's 3% at department stores with BCP =) better than a lot of stuff

Yeah the one by my house is also under the GROCERIE STORES categories, and it actually shows on BofA and Cap1 like a Grocery store.

I have the cards I want from Chase... now need to work on AMEX, get that VentureOne from CapOne and I'm DONE!

AMEX doesnt care about MCC's. Those are for Visa and mastercard networks only. Amex and Discover will do their own categorization. Some Targets and Walmarts(real walmarts i mean, not walmart grocery stores) do show up under MCC with codes for Groceries as well as Discount store. I know Amex at least used to have a pdf of all the possible MCC codes, but they won't necessarily follow them. There's a big thread on some other forum about that.

Like with my work cafeteria, its an outsourced business that counts as a fast food restaurant under MCC. But with my Zync restaurant pack i could not earn restaurant bonus points like at subway or burger king, and with my discover it also did not earn the 5% during the restaurant promtion when other fast food places did. to them it ended up under catering and travel/entertainment. When i got my freedom and sapphire, i get the restaurant bonus points with both (both are mastercards).
