Chase Slate Question.

Hi everyone, so i just applied for the Chase Slate a few mins ago and was instanly approved...however I was given a toy CL of 500.00 I wanted to use this card for Balance Transfer purposes only which is around 3,500 or so. With 500 i can't even transfer one account. I thought by putting the amount of the accounts i planned to transfer I would recieve a highr CL. I wanted to recon but since it's Thanksgiving it might be closed. So what do you guys think I should do? Call tomorrow for a recon? or not activate the card at all?

oh and btw i had my Chase Freedom for 6 months already, should I try to Increase my CL on the card as well? If I do I hope it will result in a single hp for both the Freedom and Slate.

I wouldnt try to recon it. Look at your limits that you currently have now. Chase is "i'll give you a bigger limit once someone else does" type. The only chance you may have is getting them to match your discover limit with your freedom. Thats it

So you have total CL of $3,200 excluding Chase Slate and you want to do BT of $3,500? It sounds like you maxed out your credit card?

Even if you don't activate the card the account is already opened, and will be reported. You can call, but I imagine Chase will say no.

Yeah I will try tomorrow and see what they say. The worst thing they can say is no right?

I have been trying really hard to work on my credit, so i can be approved for better cards and rates in the future.

I apoogize i haven't updated my siggy. I managed to get an increase on my Citi and Discover Card, and my WF secured card just "Graduated" recently so i am not sure my CL yet.

Back in 2007 the Mrs and I applied for a slate card with high util and got a toy limit as well. I have used the card on/off, PIF, carried a balance, etc. Never got an increase and when I do ask they tell me it will be a HP, so I always declined.

Just last week I applied for a different Chase card (my util is down to 30%) and got a 10k limit.

If you call in, worse they can say is no. Keep us posted.

Its always worth a recon, just call and speak to analyst and explain your situation and what your looking to do. Chase is pretty good, for the most part, with recon's. They are, like mentioned above, the type of lender that likes to match your current CL's and are iffy about being the first to grant a higher CL. But with that being said, I'd still call, worst they can do is say no. GL!

UPDATE:

So i just called for both my Slate and Freedom and both were a success.

I managed to get a 2000 increase on the Slate bringing it up to 2500 (asked for more but it was a no go), and I got a 2000 on the Freedom bringing it up to 3000.

I got a total of 5,000 within a few minutes, however each increase was a hp.

I'm so happy both recons were a success, and now I'm off to the garden again to let my cards grow for a while.

This forum is very very helpful and thanks everyone for the tips and advice.

That's great -- congrats! Personally, I always think that it's worth a recon if you don't get what you want. After all, you already took the hit with the HP, so why not talk to a human and see if you can make a case for getting what you wanted? Glad to hear that it worked out for you.

Now this is your next steps

1. Call Chase up and say you want to move $1000 / $2000 increase you just got onyour Chase Freedom onto your Chase Slate to give yourself $3,500 ($500 +$2000 increase you just got, and $1,000 moved over from Freedom would make your Slate's credit limit $3,500 credit limit for 0% interest rates on balance transfers.

2. Pay off your debt =P

3. Call again after your debt is paid off, then request to move $3,000 of your $3,500 Slate limit to your Freedom card. making $5,000 limit required to create a Visa Signiture card.

4. Enjoy and buy me a beer for the great idea (your 19 so I take paypal)

Recon! Cant hurt to try. Chase is very flexible when it comes to it as long as you have nothing bad on your reports. How does your reports look? Any baddies, inquiries?
