Walmart CC Starting Limit?

I received a preapproval in the mail awhile back. I gardened my barclays for 6 months, and then pulled the trigger on the WM card. I received a 300$ limit. Is this normal? I feel kind of disappointed because it's like I risked AA from barclays for a measley 300$ limit.

GE store cards usually start off with tiny limits but grow very fast. I started at $300 in oct 2011 and by oct 2012 my limit climbed up to $10,000 were it is now. Call the backdoor number every 3-4 months and ask for large increases.

Wow that's great!! Congrats on that. I just got my WM with $200 limit, even though small but still happy. How much time should I wait to ask for cli and should I pay off balance in full every month for revolving?

Weird thing about all of my GE cards that I noticed. When you charge something and pay in full, they aren't quick to give CLI's....But let something report, even if it's a couple of dollars, they'll give you a CLI then...The backdoor number works well too. Many folks reporting outrageously high CLI's just by calling and naming the amount they want. It's worked twice for me. I've just never been bold enough to ask for a CL of $10k from a $300 or $400 initial limit. And that's what Wally started me out with when I got my card back in 2011...$300 bucks.

I started with $400 asked to double my limit on the second statement and was approved. Im going to call again around march or April to double it again to 1600.

I applied for Walmart as my 2nd card in December, and was worried about not getting it. I ended up getting approved for the Walmart Discover at $950.

Do you think it's better to call back door than to click "request CLI" on the website with GE/Walmart?

I was initially approved for $600. Be patient as everybody has said, and it'll grow exponentially with you.

You get more by calling than by hitting the online button. It's also better to call the backdoor number to underwriting then the number on the back of the card. I have 3 large GE cards. I found out about the back door number in Oct 2012. Do searches and you will find the numbers. Some of the ones in the backdoor thread have changed and don't work anymore. Ill break down my cards.

Walmart - opened Oct 2011 $300. After 3rd statement it auto increased to 500. I waited 4 months then hit the online button and it increased to 800. 2 months went by and it auto increased to 1300. Then Oct 2012 it auto increased to 2600 and I decided to try the backdoor trick the same day. I called in they asked what I would like my limit to be and I said 8k. They reviewed my info asked 2 questions and said congrats your new limit is 8k. They never even mentioned the fact that I had just gotten an auto increase that morning lol. 2 days before Christmas I call again. I got it raised from 8k to 10k less than two months.

Lowes- opened March 2012 at store for 300. I was buying a dryer for 600 so wanted enough to cover the cost. The lowes employee called GE for me and the raised it to 700. After 4 months it auto increased to 1200. In Oct 2012 I called the backdoor number. This was the first time I tried the backdoor number for any account. I asked to go up to 6800 and the approved it. Then two days before Christmas 2012 I called again and asked to raise it to 12k and like magic congrats your new limit is 12k lol. So only two months after a large increase I got another huge increase.

Amazon- opened nov 2010 for 400. I hit the online button ever 4 months on this one going from 400 to 4400. Oct 2012 I finally called in and asked to go up to 10k and it was approved. This one shows yes it will grow by just hitting the button but you can see it took almost 2 years to get to 4400 but one call and I made a huge jump.

From what I've read the regular store cards with the exception of lowes the highest you can go is 10k. Not sure how high lowes can go. The others might go higher to not sure YET lol. Hope this helps you guys with your low start limits. I've also heard of people calling the underwriters the same day they activate their cards and getting it bumped up to 1k even 2,500. It's worth a shot.

Started out with $300 each on Lowes and Walmart. Lowes is currently at $800 and the WM is at $600 but I will be calling next month to ask for increases.

They started me at $600 one year ago.

Today, my CL with them is $7500.00.

They do grow quickly and I really do not use the card too much,

Mine started off at $500 and then I did call the backdoor number and asked for it to be raised. I think I asked for $2000, but they only raised it to $1000. I haven't even tried since then, but I might try again soon. I have read a lot of stories about them being generous and giving good increases. I actually tried the normal phone number while typing this and was declined. I am not too worried about it as I can't even spend the $1000 limit I already have, but I do want the card to be converted one day to the Discover Card.

Thanks TwentyTwelve! You inspired me to call the backdoor number after I read your post. I was approved for ther Walmart Discover in November and received a 2K cl. I thought that was a little low based on my performance with other GE cards. I called the backdoor number today and was bumped to 4K.
