Okay, Since the 2 of you seem to be in agreement on "validation" would it be fine if myFico were to set a limit on how many times a poster can cause trouble until they are suspended or banned? If a poster is brewing trouble on almost every post...he/she isn't being productive and should be warned about it. If they continue as this specific poster has been for quite some time...there should be a hard limit of lets say 3 strikes and you are out. BUT at this time we just have trolls galore.

I mean there is a TOS and if we were to go the way you are suggesting we are opening up a whole new can of worms and headaches for the mod squad..

Perhaps a myFICO Recommendation?

Okay, for quite a few months our great forums have been disrupted with many fabricated stories. Unfortunately, the current Terms and Conditions on myFICO have nothing to limit such behavior...instead they easily protect the lies. That is why I have an idea that would probably benefit all on myFICO. Given the fact that the forums help thousands of people with their credit...there should be some basic responsibilities to make sure people can help eacah other with accurate info. Although some people shouldn't read/trust everything that is on the internet...some people do it anyways. The issue is that when it has something to do with credit...trusting someone can end up costing them thousands of dollars if they are fooled by these fabricators. Sites like Credit Karma have account verification. So I believe myFICO should implent something similar. Perhaps myFICO should create an opt-in feature that would actually say you are an official card holder (It doesn't disclose your account information but rather just states you have it on your records). I believe this would help prevent those under age from using the forums as a toy but also weed out the possible trolls. I find that it would also reduce the amount of bickering on the threads as things often get out of hand. In addition, it would be easier for new members to display their signatures and perhaps the generic images of their cards without having to worry about editing images and adjusting sizes, etc. Any thoughts?

+1, yes I agree. I like how Credit Karma shows whether or not the commenter is a verified car holder or not. Great Idea!

We tend to use the honor system here and it is normally pretty easy to figure out who is fabricating a story or not and hey if it is your lot in life to impress a bunch of people on the internet with your fake stories than more power to you..Thats my thoughts about that.

It helped b/c I was trying to purchase SW and it wouldn't let me b/c it said my info belonged to a different user. Since last year i've really became more in tuned to my credit file and owe a lot to the legit members on here that are here to help. I'm still on here daily, but may not post that much. Just trying to continue to learn more and maybe even perhaps offer some help to others when i can.

Excellent post! I, for one would have no problem with the "verified member" status. It might be easy to figure out who may or may not be full of it but if there is something that makes it a little easier; why not?

True it will not stop all of it but it might deter some.

How does CK do it? As far as I can see from my credit report, you can tell that I got a credit card from the WrongSideofTheTracks Bank in May 2011, with a credit limit of $900 (and of course my payment history), but is there anything there that says if it is the SteelRazorShaaarp card or just the plain InYourFaceClassic?

Knowing that a user has *a* Citi card doesn't really help you judge if his/her statements on the CLI proccess for the Citi Forward are likely to be correct

The issue isn't about the statements they make on a specific account/etc but rather if they even have any personal knowledge. For example, we have a poster that has been crying AA, banks are the worse, etc but goes around to others stating a low score, etc and claims to have been with PenFed and so on. This person probably has nothing other than a shattered ego while bashing others and encouraging others that he knows all. Therefore, if a new member were to see someone who is verified to have a bank relationship they would be more inclined to compare profiles as opposed to someone claiming they are "in with said bank", etc just applying at random which in turn hurts them when they get bad results from applying based on the recommendations of a liar.

I like this idea of having a way to verify the cards we have on record. We've been having too many fairy tales recently around the boards. I guess this could be another way of helping discern the lies from the reality. Trolls are out there and they are hungry! So don't feed them.

back in the day we used to post pics of our CC collection and you can still post a screen shot from CK with your accounts but that will only show issuer and CL

you can Completely edit the card image and name on the ck accounts list. It's not a reliable way of proving a relationship hehe

If someone is willing to go through the edit process to try and lie...they have way too much time on their hands and a few other issues

More often than not, we can discern and judge the merits of poster's input by merely reading a few posts.

I've never thought about what cards a poster has or doesn't have when forming a personal view on the merits of a post. I doubt a card profile will influence what I think or the value I find in a post one way or the other.

An insightful post stands on its own merits irrespective of whether or not a poster has any cards, let alone "good" ones. Equally, an irreverent post isn't made any better even if the Poster has a Centurion for each hand.
