Finally Got my Penfed Cash Rewards Visa, but.....

I finally got my Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards Visa yesterday. I found there's not EMV chip on the card. I was disappointed. Can I requested it online or call them?

Just call them. My card that I was approved suite the beginning of the month still hasn't arrived grrr

They sent me to put in another apps to get EMV. It is strange.

Why would you have to app for another version of the card just to get the chip?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the issue about the EMV chip? I was in Europe (Germany and Austria) for 27 days and had not one problem with my existing (US) cards. And i used them a lot. car rental, gas, shopping, grocery, dining ... everywhere no problem at all.

Yes, I know what the chip is, I am from Germany and have a german mastercard with the chip. But do we really need the chip?

WOW! I got my card a while ago, and it did in fact have the EMV chip in it. Sorry that yours didn't have it. Another MYFICO member said he, too, had to do a new application in order to get the chip.

UPDATE:

They cancelled the card that I have. They setup another account and they need me to go online to setup the PIN for EMV Chip card. Now I have to wait another 3 weeks for another card. Hopefully, they didn't pull another credit report. It was a lot of hassle. I'm glad they were able to get me another one.. The CSR was very patience, friendly and professional.

To all: You probably won't get the EMV card if you didn't setup PIN when you applied for the card. It is chip and PIN like Diners Club MC. You need to call them to see if they send out the right card for you.

Just got my Platinum Rewards with EMV. I had to submit a new app so now I have two cards, one with a chip and one without, with different account numbers.

Someone posted on another forum that PenFed are planning/hoping to be able to issue EMV on existing accounts around Feb or so. Other issuers do this without much problem, but PenFed are currently insisting on a new app.

I'm glad you got one. She put in another application and she was able to get me approved. Hopefully, there's not another credit pull. I didn't know I had to set PIN when I applied for the card. I applied over the phone several weeks ago. The other CSR didn't ask me to set the PIN for the card. Oh well, it is another 3 weeks for the new card.

It is Chip&Pin but defaults to Chip&Sig as preference. A few posts saying this caused issues in places such as Ireland, where people refused to accept signature transactions on these cards, because it should take a PIN.

I am expecting them to close the old one as soon as I activated the new one, both still show as active though. I expect it will happen as they are so clear on $20K limit for new customers, and now I have 2 $20K cards

I didn't bother to activate the other one. It asked me to enter the expiration date to activate online. I hope they didn't pull another report to get the card.

I got the original card in Oct (before I knew that EMV was available from PenFed), so I activated it then.

I also want to see if rewards transfer. Both accounts show on my home page, but can't find a place on the rewards site to specify account number.
