Got rejected

Just tried to apply for a discover card and got rejected. My fico is 631 and my experian score is a 641. I have a capital one platinum with a $1300 limit and have not been late in two years, plus a card loan for $22000 that is also on time.

631 is low (IMO) for Discover. YMMV

I was only trying to get more credit as the capital one is below the $2000 limit which is more acceptable range. I make over $100,000 and figured the discover card was an easy card to get.

Question: Will this application go on my credit as a hard inquiry?

Speak to underwriting and ask them to reconsider the application. It gives you a chance to potentially explain whatever concerns they had which resulted in the denial and potentially have it approved.

yes it will. Doesnt hurt to recon your application with them. I also would suggest if Cap1 is the only revolving credit you have and with your scores try with a local CU or open a secured CC with a bank (US Bank, BofA) for an amount over 2000. You can also try to get in with GE Bank (Walmart, Amazon, JC Penny to name a few). They are generous with CLI.

In the past when i had both a paid and unpaid Chargeoff on my reports discover rejected me twice for that specific reason, do you have any negatives that would be a reason for them to decline you? I tried to recon with them in the past and had no luck but YMMV, a recon can't hurt the worst thing they can do is say no again.

yes call them ...my application got cancelled not declined and when I emailed them to find out why I had been explained the difference between cancel and decline and they asked me to call. Sorrry do not remember the number but it was one of the backdoor numbers from this forum. Got approved after a several verification questions. Since you have your hard pull anyhow I think you can only win and just answer the questions they ask honestly. For me the hardest to get with 793 EQ and 809 EX was Discover but I do appreciate that they do verify some information before issuing credit. Less to worry about ID theft. Lowest CL for me but it shows me Discover is a responsible lender.

I'd recon. Worst they can do is explain why they will not approve.

I got the dreaded 7-10 day type message so I called and they just wanted me to explain my only baddie, a paid CO from 2008. Then I was approved, give it a try!

Wast of time folks. Got rejected again due to a so past charge off from years ago. Sad thing is this will now show up as a hard inquiry on my credit.

It's amazing, Discover will deny somone for an ancient Chargeoff yet Amex had no trouble approving me for both a charge card and a revolver. It's reasons like this that i will choose to not give my buisness to discover in the future even when i could easily get one of their cards.

Discover gave me credit when my score was 650 and I had around 20 baddies due to defaulted student loans and missed payments on credit cards. They are very lenient but they want to see that score around 650.
