My account is only 7 (almost 8) months old, just got my credit steps CLI. I'll probably hit them up at 10 months or a year. They're currently my highest limit. Cap1 has been great to me. I have another offer on my account to upgrade to a venture card which I'm going to take after I get my annual bonus.

No i was in "chat now" and they offered to upgrade me to the 2% venture card and let me keep my accounts lifetime AF waiver. So once I get my annual bonus im gonna get that and it will upgrade me to a world mastercard.
And myjourney what was your limit when they doubled? My starting limit was 3k.i doubt cap1 is going to give me a 7k limit as a college student and double me.

Cause it seems to make sense to me that if I were using my card a lot every month say approaching the CL and then either paying in full or paying most of it every month so the balance went back to 0 again then I could come to them a "need" a CLI more than if I just hardly used it and kept util% at say like 8% all the time. I hear mixed things about Capital One. It seems there is one camp that says Capital One is a great tool to pull yourself out of bad credit but not the place to be longterm for CLIs and to add a "prime" card as soon as your credit improves enough to get one. The other school seems to believe that Capital One is no different than anyone else and can be worked for nice CLIs no problem. My credit goal is to rebuild my credit long term not just the score but my reports as a whole. I don't anticipate needing a lot of credit in absolute dollar terms. In fact I am a strong believer in living below my means and have only gotten credit cards as a means of improving my credit. I figure I don't need credit now but someday I might and I feel like improving my credit will improve my self esteem which I am told is a little lacking. I'm in a 12 step program for addiction and part of my recovery is to get honest about any debt and stay that way in the future. Some people knock 12 step programs but they have given me a path to become a better person and that path has led me here to improving my credit score.

I guess my point is that I don't really feel I need to be really aggressive at increasing my CLs. I am more focussed and aggressive at trying to get baddies taken care of. Thank you to everyone who has responded to this thread however. I have learned a lot. I thought before reading all these responses that Capital One basically gave people this one bump in CL only if they were signed up for the Credit Steps Program as part of soime limited time promotion for their cards. I figured since I hadn't heard anything about this promotion when I applied that I had somehow missed the boat on it. So I was verey excited to get the letter explaining the program and am even more excited to hear about so many people's success on here at getting their CL increased even more. That is awesome.

I did C1 platinum credit steps, and got my increase from 3k to 3500. I used the card a lot, but paid in full every month. After 12 months, I contacted the EO and was product changed to Green Cash with 1.5% rewards, and given a 10k limit. they also dropped the AF for my Orchard card.

I got the idea from the exec office threads here, and then wrote some steps out for what worked for me in another thread. You can find those steps by clicking the green card in my sig.

My Capital One was a credit steps card and went from $1000 to $1500. A year later, I emailed the EO and asked for $5000 and got it. I didn't think I would get more than three times what the credit limit was at the time, but I did. They did, in the conversation, ask if I would be willing to accept a lower amount if they couldn't approve the whole amount.
