Discover openly advertises that we can get cash back for purchases inside the gas station. Is the same true for Penfed and Chase freedom?

I don't believe so on the Chase Freedom, not sure about the PenFed card.

I actually tried it last month with my Chase Freedom (purchased $141 in gas, and then purchased two $25 shell gift cards). Cheked my UR points and it included points for the whole purchase!

Did you pay for the whole transaction inside the store?

Yes, on Freedom as long as you buy gas with it you are fine even inside, inside or outside you get 5 % if they have it for that quarter.

Penfed you have to pay at the pump outside to get 5%.
