AMEX AU Backdating

Quick question.

I know AMEX back dates member since date for users that were a Authorized user on a previous AMEX account.

I was an authorized user on an BCE account in April 2012, and I just applied and approved for my own BCE card. I then called up customer service and asked them if they could correct my 'member since' date. After verifying my old AU card number she said they would be mailing me out a new card with the correct member since date.

What I wanted to ask is will new AMEX card that I just got report to the credit reports as opened April 2012 or will it report when I got approved for my own card which was February 2013?

Assuming that your AU (ACM) was opened 4/12; you should be backdated to 2/12 in this case is my understanding of how Amex currently works.

So if I recently got a BCP and my parents have had an amex since 1987. Can I get added as an authorized user on that card, and next month ask for my new card to be backdated to 80s?

Not anymore, and perhaps not ever for your scenario. These days the membership date is effectively established in one of two ways:

The date you obtain your first Amex card
The date you were added as an ACM (AU in Amexese) to an existing member's account

So in your case, adding yourself as an ACM wouldn't do any good as far as your membership date goes for backdating purposes.

Yes!

Once upon a time, they would have backdated to 1987! But, those were the "good" old days.

Wow that's awesome! So will this be the case for every new AMEX card I open? So let's say in another month I apply for the PRG and get approved, will my credit report show that credit card account as being opened on 2/12 as well?

It'll reflect the "month" you apply and the year of your original membership. For example, you apply for a new Amex in January 2018, it'll show a TL as "01/12" for an instant 6 year tradeline.

I just got my new Amex back dated to an account i had in 2000. I can't wait until the new account age reports and see what it does to my AAoA.

Do you have to have them backdate everytime you get a new AMEX card, or will they do it automatically after the first time you tell them to do it?

Because they can, I suppose. Not sure of the legal reasons why. It must have to do with some kind of "grandfathering," otherwise other issuers will do it.

I had an Amex Gold and Plat back in 2003.. I closed them after a relastionship split and I just received my new Amex gold delta skymiles and they backdated it to 2003.. Waiting to see if they report 2003 to the CA..

Indeed. If you have a current account with Amex typically it's done automatically is my understanding of it and was the case for me personally.

If there's been a lapse in time, or you happen to be an ACM on someone else's account, you may have to jump through some extra hoops to get it done.

If I was added to an AMEX account in 1999 and removed again in 2000 but apply for my own card in 2013 does the AU date have any effect? I'm a reaching here or what lol.

You're only partly reaching

Not all ACM dates will be granted that date when the person is approved for their own individual account. AMEX is allowing ACMs to retain the MSD when being added to another account under the same primary. They're "phasing out" allowing that date to transfer to that persons new individual account, though most of the CSRs are still doing it, sometimes even the system does it auto.

Here's the issue. AMEX reps are even often unclear on how MSD works and how it's granted. Which is why logically, it's even more confusing here. I can assure you, MSD rules have changed a LOT since 2011 and they're still up in the air so to speak.

(MSD = Member Since Date)
