Chase 7-Eleven

Anyone have this card and have anything good, bad, or ugly to say about it?

Lately, I've been researching cards that might reward me for specific places where I already spend a lot of money anyway. The rewards for 7-Eleven purchases would be a nice chunk of change for me. It's where I get my coffee (and more often than not, a donut) every single morning.

First 60 days: 10% back at 7-Eleven, 2% everywhere else

After that: 3% back at 7-Eleven, 1% everywhere else

Anyone?

I've not heard of the cards but WOW on the rewards. If you shop there a lot, I'd say go for it.

Is gas included in the rewards? 7-11's are huge down here. One about every mile. lol

The rewards description I saw online doesn't say anything about any exclusions. It just says "at participating 7-Elevens." I checked the website and all of them near me are "participating," so I'm good as far as that goes.

I do have that whole app hiatus thing going on, though.

Just gathering the data for when the time comes.

Kind of off topic but didn't you say you were moving to Manhattan? I'm not aware of there being any 7-11's there at all.

23rd St & Park Ave

One just west of Times Square...don't remember exactly where.

Maybe more.

Chase needs to come out with a Dunkin' Donuts card. I'd be all over that once I got to Manhattan.

Edit: Your point is well-taken though. I hadn't even considered how my daily routine will need to change in just a few months. Thanks for reminding me!

The thing is that if you go the Chase route, Freedom will get you 3% CB at both the aforementioned places and more. Plus I highly doubt you spend $600/month at 7-11 and Dunkin' Donuts combined.

I totally agree with ChaoticKinesis. The Chase Freedom card has more rewards bonus spending categories, and you would probably earn rewards much faster with that card than the 7-11 card. You already know to avoid the Signature/World versions of the Freedom card.

Thanks for the opinions, both of you.

The rewards would be slightly more on the 7-11 card than they would be on the Freedom, due to the 10% intro period for two months. That puts the average reward for the first year @ 4.2% instead of 3%, assuming consistent spending month to month.

I went back and ran some reports in MS Money to see how much I actually spend at 7-11 on an annual basis. I won't actually post that number here due to the fact that it's kind of outrageous and embarrassing (you can do the math and figure it out if you want), but I did calculate that for me, the difference in rewards for the first year would amount to $28. The second year, of course, the difference in rewards would be $0.

After crunching the numbers (and finally remembering that I'll be moving soon to a place where 7-11s are harder to come by), I'm going to agree with both of you that the card won't be worth it for me.
