Citi Platinum Select app

Just applied for a Citi Platinum Select card, which is the first time in years since I've tried for a credit card. Of course, I'm probably being paranoid and sensitive about this as a result. Anyway, I thought it would be instant notification, but below is the message I got from them. Is this a rejection or is this procedure for Citi, regardless? "Thank you! Your application for the Citi® Platinum Select® MasterCard® has been received. When our review is complete, we will contact you via U.S.mail regarding our decision." By the way, my scores are EX 689, TU 676 and EQ is somewhere around there. It wouldn't give me a score the most recent time I tried to check. In the past, I've had late payments and a couple chargeoffs, which will fall off this year. I don't have perfect credit by any means, but the last few years I've been paid off longstanding CC balances and repaired a lot of the damage. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I was approved for the platinum select with score slightly lower than yours.

Just means they want to give the app a quick eyeball. Hard to say one weay or another. Do you have any current credit cards? With those scores that would be the only thing I could see is lack of a card with a high enough limit. I knwo, had that happen to me when applying had nothing but one low limit card and that was the reason they gave.

If they always look at your other CLs, then how do you ever get a higher CL card like Citi?

Depending on your limitsand history. Usually if they approve at entry level, you get the lowest CL. They will increase you gradually about every six months, depending on yur history with them and overall CR, but I believe CITI is one of those that you can call an request a CLI as well.

Thanks everyone...

I don't have any current credit cards that I've been using for the past few years. I just recently PIF a credit card account that had been closed, and it was a big balance I had been carrying around for years. So I haven't had any open lines of credit besides a student loan and a car loan. I know that could probably be used against me, but I have to start somewhere.

I just hope Citi doesn't reject me cuz that would just hurt some of the repair I've worked so hard for the last couple years. Bleah. I hate this.

On a separate note though, these forums have been a Godsend! I wouldn't have been brave enough to apply to begin with if it wasn't for coming across this message board.

Hey WBLake,

How did you apply for this card -- online or through the mail? Also, did you get instantly approved or did you have to wait through the mail, if so how long?

I recieved an invitation by mail and decided to call instead of writing. they said they will review and contact me. They left me a number to call and find out if i was approved. This was the first time in years since i done that. And that is why they need time to review. no recent credit card history. Just Dell account. I called few days later and they told me i am approved at $2,000. I used this card few times but it carries a hefty interest rate. So it is not prime.

You will get it.

I received a letter indicating that I was pre selected. I had just begun to work on my credit and I really did not thank that I would be approved. The form that they sent did not have an option for an online application. I had to either call or send via mail. I called and once I complete the application I was told to wait 2 weeks and call for the status. When I call they advised me that I was approved.

Just to add. I recently applied for the EXXON Mobil card via the internet. Its a citibank card as well. I received the 30 day notice. But I called the same number that I called to check my other citibank card and it was approved.

I think my score is borderline so I'm not getting to many instant approvals.

Are you saying that citicards aren't prime? Is prime/subprime Strictly a product of your interest rate or are there other factors.

Now I just have to wait.

You know, I also thought prime/subprime was a product of the interest rate you get from your credit scores... Am curious about this answer as well...
