Just curious.. From reading other posts on here I see most ppl receive their credit score on their Amex denial letters but there was not one listed on mine. Has anyone else gotten a denial from Amex with no score? I was hoping I'd at least get my ex fico out of the hp!!

A couple weeks ago I applied for the Amex green card in hopes of starting a relationship with AMEX and was denied. I received the letter today and the reason for denial was use of a credit counseling agency. I was on a DMP in the past but all the accounts that were on DMP are paid in full and I am no longer in the program. one of my old accounts still has the notation payments managed by counseling agency on my report but it is closed with a zero balance they just never removed that notation. Do you think if I call Amex and explain they will approve it? That's the only reason stated on the denial letter. Also do they usually give your EX Fico on the denial letter because there was not one on there. Of course I know the only way to get a definite answer is to call AMEX but I figured I would see if anyone here was ever in that situation and what the outcome was. Thanks! Also is the best number to call the one they put on the denial letter?

for amex, a recon is a hard pull. even if you tell them not to, they will still do a hard pull as long as you try to appeal the decision.

there are many threads on this and other forums that will tell you the same thing. i also experienced the same thing myself last week.

if they declined you, just wait for the letter, find out why you got declined. work on it somehow one way or another, and then reapply.

that is probably the best "safest" way you can make use of for your inquiries.

If you have a low number of inquiries and don't mind exhausting one more, then definitely get it recon'ed. Otherwise, just wait and try again next time.

Their recon staff are *sometimes* very helpful on explaining why you got declined and how you can increase your chances. It took me about 9 phone calls before I spoke to someone who actually made any sense over the phone. He explained everything to me in detail, and that phone call definitely helped me a lot.

Best of luck!

Thanks... I already got the denial letter and the only reason stayed was because I'm on a debt management program but I'm really not so there's not really anything I can work on as far as the reasons they have me except to somehow prove to them I'm not on a DMP. Has anyone successfully done this before?
