AMEX Backdating question

I was an AU on my grandfathers AMEX Optima Back in 1998 the account has long been paid off and closed since my grandfather passed in 1999. If I apply will they backdate my card to 1998?

It's certainly possible; the decision will hinge around whether they can find the account or not automatically. You may have to call after the approval to ask, and they may or may not be able to find it, but it's a legit backdate.
