Why is this card so sought after?

I understand the getting 2 points per dollar on travel, but other cards like the price line card get you 2% cash back on anything

Maybe I just don't get it because I don't spend a thousand a month so I wouldn't be able to hit the minimum spending for the bonus

I'm just curious why everyone wants it haha

I suspect "It's metal" IS the real reason it's popular here! (+ AF waived so it's free for the first year).

Viewed as a cash-back card, it's not all that great and certainly not worth the AF compared to others, but that is not the real point of the card. The major feature is the ability to transfer UR points to partner airlines and hotels. (And some of the Inks allow this as well). Ideally partner this with a card the earns a lot of points, such as the Freedom with checking (although the point earning potential of this will decrease for all as grandfathering goes away). If you do this, along with things like no AF and the dividend, AND you do a spending and travelling in premium cabins, this card is really good.

I would suspect though that many people seeking it here don't fit that description, but want it for other factors (read metal).

Actually, I don't get the love for Freedom alone either. Need to pair that with something to make it interesting, as the 5% categories, even with the 10% bonus from checking, are capped really low.

Is it really that much pain to close or downgrade card? You *NEVER* actually pay the fee. Isn't this just simple "black and white" cost/benefit analysis? There's nothing complex, no obfuscation and nothing even remotely abstract.

Price ranges upto $1,200 to $2,800 depending on season but points requirements are the same. I fly in peak season so I get the full redemption rates at over 4.3 cents per point

For first class saver tickets can reach upwards of $12,800 for 130k points. Almost 10 cents per point value here.

You can also find great deals with hotels as well. 30k points to book at a Ritz in Miami where the rooms were $1,000 + for Ultra music festival etc.

thanks! its clearly a great card for travelers

not just for travelers, they have many other uses, but it's great to save up for a vacation even if you don't travel much. I mean if it's virtually free you'd travel more right? There are ways to get completely free vacations =X I made several hundred thousands of points within 6 months I won't have to pay for airline ticket or a hotel room anytime soon =)
