If you mean joint accounts, Amex doesn't do joint accounts.

If you mean AU accounts, Amex does AU accounts but don't send statements to the AU.

If that's not what you are asking, then can you rephrase you question?

I'm currently an AU on DH's card. Last fall, when I called, they said that I could convert to joint without an inq. Later I have read that they are now doing a hard for the conversion.

So, yes, you can be an AU now, or at least they will let you continue as one. The question of converting to joint is a bit trickier.

I will say that Discover's CSR's are more knowledgeable (and good-natured!) than those of any other CCC, including American Express (gasp.) Your best bet would be to give them a call.

That's the best that I can do--slightly out-of-date info, I'm afraid.

My mother had an Amex and then put me on her account. This is the only way I could get one. However, when she passed away, they revoked the card even though I had paid it off.... Amex is very particular about who keeps their cards.

If your dad is reliable and willing to do this for you, having your own card in your name and making regular payments on it from an account in your name really will help you get your own Amex in future.

My mom added me to her Amex green account and I was issued a card with my name on it. They sent her the statements, but I could always access account information too. I'd just call customer service.

I always made sure to pay for my charges with checks or debits drawn from my checking account. After awhile, I was able to cancel that card and immediately get my own green when I otherwise wouldn't have qualified. My scores were in the low 600s. Plus, I'd defaulted on a green card and gold card in the past. I was told I was approved for the new green because I'd established a regular history of payment with Amex.
