Should I be worried? I just got off the phone with a CSR who informed me that they would credit my account. When I called a few days ago when it was in pending limbo, it seems that it was a TV infomercial purchase? Very awesome of them to do it no questions asked.

CSR said that there was no alert on my account at this time to request a new account number, and they advised that it could be a one time thing, so I didn't go forward with that.

I've never really had this happen before. Is it possible that people can access more of my information other than my CC number? Should I be proactive and request another account number? I've been monitoring my other accounts and no activity, so it seems that my Amex was the only one affected.

Once...possibly accidental. Twice...new card, and monitor all you have. Good thing about Amex is that they'll always side with the consumer first on a dispute.

Might be a good idea to get a monitoring subscription going, if you don't already have one.

I had same thing happen once with my Indian Card. I opted to change the number. They overnighted me the card.

I am sure AMEX also sends the new card over night. You just have to change the number everywhere you have set auto payment.

I personally would do that for peace of mind.

The bank will usually credit the amount right away or within one day. By law they must do it within ten days while they investigate. I do use the Capital One debit card to get 20 cents per purchase on small purchases, but don't keep a lot of money in there and am not paranoid since they have $0 fraud liability.
