Amex Bluebird application got rejected

Does anyone have similar story to mine? This is so confusing and even hard to fathom that my registration got rejected. I registered online and a few days later received an email regarding the rejection. Amex suggested me to apply for a prepaid card instead. There is my hope of using Vanilla card to rake up points

that's a first.... are you registered into chexsystems for a delinquent checking account?

Never have any problem with my current checking account. Never have a collection or bounced checks in the past. Is this what you are asking me, hayabusa?

For instance if you overdraft on a checking account and never pay it off the bank will usually report you to chexsystems, this makes it so you can't get into most banks for 7 years. I would call and ask them what's going on. On the good news you won't need Bluebird with new changes in legislation on 4/1/2013.

Hmm, never had an overdraft at all with any particular bank. I only had one overdraft throughout my life, but then I had an overdraft protection, so that the fund was retracted from saving account automatically. I am tempted to call Amex, but then again my purpose to open Bluebird is to find a way to maximize my points utilization. So, I don't think it is worth the hassle of calling them just to recon a bluebird card.

Anyways, may I ask what is the new legislation that takes place into my consideration to recon my decision of getting bluebird?

I had "verification required" message after registering for Bluebird with a phone number to call, called in and they asked me to fax them my SSN card or any other proof of SSN number.

Sent it to them and received another message in a matter of hours that registration had been succesful.

Did you call them to ask for reasons of this?

Do you have Amex Serve? You cannot have Bluebird when you have Serve.

Can't speak for hayabusa, but I'd guess that refers to the latest round of changes springing from the Durbin amendment and having to do with interchange fees and debit cards.

all prepaid credit cards are now useable as debit (not 100% effective with all cards yet) include pin numbers etc to use.

This explains something weird I had seen the other day.

Before checking out from my local supermarket while waiting in line, I saw the cashier and manager refuse to accept a person's credit/debit card to load a prepaid and insisted they would only do so with cash (actually paper currency).

there's also a lot of talk on the other forums about Amex shutting down bluebird accounts (and potentially other amex accounts if any).......so it's definitely not worth the risk trying to abuse VR.

is interesting why VT is the only state excluded of BlueBird ... how strange is that... when things like this happen is usually a cluster of states that get removed
