But usually if there is an offer for the 100K it's through third party sites. I believe the last 100K platinum offer was from creditcards.com

Credit cards.com was a mistake, hence why it was pulled so quickly. 100k offers are typically targeted at very specific people only. It's not something that is usually available to the general public.

Yes, it was. Once it became publicized it was shut down within 1-2 days. Do you really think Amex would offer simply offer 100k to any pleb? As far as sign up bonuses are concerned, it's a significant cost for an untargeted offer.

i got the 50k offer for the prg in the mail and when i went to the amex website to apply they also gave me the offer for the platinum for the 100k with a 3k spend but the annual fee is not wavied should had applyed for that one to net the extra 150 but i would had canceled it before the next years annual fee doubt i keep the prg

Extremely rare offer that anyone should take up should they ever see it again. I'm still stunned at the amount of people who had "ponder" this offer during the couple of days it was available.

100K MR points for the Plat is a phenomenal offer that is usually reserved for a tragetted demographic. Not sure if we'll see it again, since some who signed up for the creditcards.com offer has had some trouble receiving their points.

Pretty rare, but hopefully it will come around again. I agree that it was a mistake and it is unlikely AMEX will do an untargeted 100k again. Hopefully you will get a targeted offer someday.

Hey I was one of those people! I received a direct mailing for a 100k offer, and I eventually decided against it. Do you think I made the wrong decision? I didn't know if I was ready to pull the trigger as such back then, and I ended up applying for the JPM Ritz card instead the following month.

I figure that if I'm patient I'll see another 100k offer in the future. My income/scores aren't likely to change anytime soon, so the next time they target that demographic I'll likely be targeted again.

Also Open how are you finding the JPM Ritz vs. the Amex Plat now that you've had both?

So far, I'd have to say for my personal spending, the JPM Ritz card is likely the better choice. Mainly because my Ritz stays area always personal and never for business and the Ritz card offers some nice perks along with some added points. I've been pretty happy with it so far. I haven't utilized the airline credit extensively yet, but I sense unlike the Amex card, the credit doesn't post automatically, but also not limited to a single airline.

This may change if and when the Ritz points becomes watered down. I'm still a little suprised a top-drawer hotel chain such as the Ritz allows these rewards points and UR transfers. Until it becomes watered down, I think this is a great way to use some UR points to round up stays.

How do you like it so far?

PS - The SPG Gold conferred by Plat is a great benefit, but I won't need it after this year.

I've been very happy with the service, although I'm unsure about how well I'm using the benefits. I only stay at the Ritz once per year (on average, and twice on rare occasion), so usually 2/3 of the club level upgrades are wasted. Ritz/Marriott Gold after 10k has been fantastic.

I haven't been able to use much of the $200 airline credit this year, so the jury is still out on that one. I've heard conflicting reports on what the credit can be used for, with some saying it's only for baggage and in-flight expenses, while others report being able to use it for ticketing and other misc. fees. I'm really hoping for the latter, since baggage and in-flight fees for us are virtually non-existant.

There are times I don't mind staying at the Ritz, but it's not always my hotel chain of choice. I definitely don't look like your average Ritz guest, so at times it can be a bit uncomfortable. I'd probably get less awkward reactions if I dressed in polo or button-down shirts and slacks, but usually I dress like Justin Bieber (for lack of a better alternative and yes he's a tool). I find that I'm unwilling to change my personal dress style to garner a better reaction (especially when I'm on vacation), yet at times I've been frustrated at the subtle hints of condescention and condenmation I sometimes receive.

I'll retain the card for another year, and then after that will re-evaluate my position.

On another topic - have you stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Seoul? Assuming things eventually calm down, we'll be heading over there later this year. The JW Marriott was great, but I was hoping for commentary from someone who has actually stayed at the RC since one can only get so much from reading reviews.

Never have and only because most of my trips to Seoul are for business rather than a personal vacation. From the few I know who have stayed there, I've heard it's a very nice first class hotel, but "average" relative to other Ritz's.

I do agree with you on the dress code for the Ritz. They're definitely more into the sports coat and trousers apparel than most other hotels, especially those catering to vacation stays rather than business.

When in Seoul, I like the Westin Chosun. One of the neatest hotels I've been to and it offers a nice contrast to most western hotels.

In general, I think the Ritz may be nice in terms of "classi" elegance, especially if you get an upgrade with your JPM Ritz card. Where I like the Westin is it's extremely convenient location and unique architecture.

All things being equal, you're likely to get better treatment at the Ritz with your status than at Westin without any SPG status. It wouldn't be poor or substandard, but you wouldn't get the "extra" perks and service you would at the Ritz with your card.

In this case, I'd probaby stay at the Ritz and have dinner one night at the Westin just to check out the architecture.
