AMEX upgrades?

does AMEX ever offer to upgrade cards to a higher level charge card?

EX:

Green can be upgraded to gold

gold upgraded to plat

has this ever happended? i am wondering because a co worker said that their parents had amex and they offered them an upgrade to either gold or plat i cant remember.

Tons of offers go out to upgrade charge cards. Some people find an offer right on their online account where they can just do it right their. A lot of people on the forum have reported getting said offers.

U can always ask them to upgrade but i doubt they will grant a ""cheap"" AF. No way.

While i doubt you'll ever get an upgrade to a plat with a cheap AF, they do offer things like the senior green, and (i think) the senior gold card, which tend to be slightly cheaper (substantially cheaper if you don't want rewards).

Yes, I received a targeted upgrade offer for Platinum upgrade about 6 months after getting the Gold. Same Platinum AF fee and it's billed first statement (less pro rated AF from Gold). If you are worried about the AF on a Platinum I'm thinking you don't need it or are not ready. I value the perks so the fee is no big deal. Also I don't charge very much on it unless I have a big purchase then it's great.

How much AF for the senior gold card ??

Ranges from 55-75 depending on what options you get. I'll try to find the site that lists all the card options. Can't app for senior cards though, have to PC to then.

AFAIK yes, you will se it online if you qualify. I've never seen a cheap AF for Plat either.

I have an upgrade option of my PRG to Platinum and also my BCP to the Blue Sky Preffered. I can't even apply for the platium online separately as only has upgrade option. Perhaps at a later time when I can justify the AF.

I think the whole point in offering an upgrade option, is so that they can collect a higher annual fee.

Why else would they want to offer you extra perks (at their expense), if they had nothing to gain from it ??

I partly agree. I would think AF comes into play, also would think you would want the customer to be happy and if they fit that spending pattern for a different card offfer the upgrade to get them in that direction.
