What kind of credit limits do you all receive when you combined cards? DId you lose available credit? I have three cards with HSBS and all have an AF (Orchard $39; DMD Discover -not sure how much; HSBC $19). I am hoping to lose the AF and hopefully not lose available credit.

Have any of you combined your HSBC accounts? Were you given a comparable credit limit, or did you lose some available credit upon merger? Are you able to keep the history for the account that has been opened the longest (e.g., Orchard Card open 3 years HSBC card open 2 months - combined to one HSBC account - can you keep the history for the Orchard)? Just wanting to see if this is a worthwhile action. When I spoke to HSBC I was advised you must apply for the combination of cards PLUS you are not guaranteed to maintain the total amount of credit you had when the cards were individual accounts. SIDENOTE: I also have a DMB (Direct Merchant Bank) Discover which is also issued through HSBC. Whenever I call, HSBC only sees the Orchard card. Does anyone know if the DMB Discover is included if you want to combine cards?

I combined cards. One was Disc. Net Plat. ($1600 no annual fee) The other was Disc. Rewards ($300.00 $59.00 annual fee). Both were new accounts. I actually had the first delivered then called to combine them. I made it clear thatI wanted to keep the one without the annual fee. I got conflicting information, some said I would have to pay it as a transfer balance, some said no. I was told I would have to wait for some paperwork, but when I called to check the status a week or so later, I was told the cards were combined. I did not get the paperwork. The only problem I had was getting that $59.00 removed, which showed up as an annual fee. After several calls and some awful language, I must admit on my part, I spoke with a young man and simply pointed out that I was chared an annual fee for a card that clearly has no annual fee. He removed it. Maybe I lucked out in that it reported as an annual fee, rather a balance transfer.

Good Luck

They combined my Orchard and HSBC card to my HSBC card, only to lower my CL a month later. They cited too many inquiries. Don't matter, though. I have lots of cards with higher limits. I wouldn't chance it...and yes, they did a hard pull. Close one or the other. The only reason I kept the card open is there is no annual fee.
