I was just filling out due dates and other info on my cc spreadsheet. I went to
JcPenney.com to check my account to make sure my of info.

I haven't used the card in 7 months, $0 balance, $650 limit since I've had it 8/2004, well I used it last month for $68 and paid it off ASAP.

Just now, I figured....ahh let me just click the request credit line increase button.

Well instantly it popped up, Congratulations!, you have been increased to $1800, please press, submit request if you accept this offer.

*ell yess.

I thought for sure it would be a flat out NO.

By the way, how much of a point score increase is that on your credit for a CLI as opposed to a new credit card??

Cool. I don't know the answer to your question, but do you know if they did a hard or soft pull? I have a JCP card and would like to ask for a cli without a hard pull. Thanks

Brammy: I think I asked for an increase last year, but there was baddies on credit, that weren't mine and since repaired.

Saedra: I'm not sure, but it was so fast, I seem to think it may have been internal on their part. Maybe just your credit history with them. They more than likely do periodic checks. I know I haven't seen any, not even promotional inquiries from JCP at all in over a year, but I can't 100% because I haven't used my card in 7 months until this month.

When the end of the month rolls by and I pull my credit again I will look and see and let you know, just PM me to remind me if you want before you apply.

I love to use my card there for school clothes shopping for the extra discount then pay it off.

concorduser, did you do this today too?? I was just floored. I have never been approved so fast...lol.

I was also given a CLI with Juniper just a week ago from $3150 to $3900 for paying off my cc.

Congrats on the cli's tdakpj! I love my Penny's card too. I use it a lot during the Christmas shopping season, and very little throughout the year except for buying cosmetics from Sephora during the year.

My cli's have never resulted from a hard inquiry. Only soft inq's if at all.

Those of you with a JCP card - are there any perks? I had one back in the day, didn't default on it, just stopped using it. (I remember being insulted by the limit at the time.) However, there is a brand new JCP right by my new house and I (cough) made the mistake of going in there this weekend. That's NOT the same JCP I remember.

Any suggestions or reasons to have this card?

Peas, I mainly shop there for my pre-teen boys. They LOVE south pole clothes. Now for me, I accidently just found a Talbots in my town so now I shop there dahling....

LMAO - I love Talbots. I'll be about 15 min from one in my new abode, so I'm safe for the moment. (I wish everyone took the time to wrap purchases like they do. Okay, everyone except Walmart.)

I actually found two sweaters in JCP that were decent, and were on clearance. Okay, not to mention the 350 bucks I spent on Philosophy/Sephora/Bliss, etc. This could be dangerous.

I miss my JcPenney just because every 3 months there would be a note on my statement that they increased the cl again! but GE does not allow you to keep accounts through bk, they closed it out as soon as they got word even though they wern't included

I was platinum with a 4200 limit too and it was my moms account originally and then I took it over, came with history from 1983!!! that hurt

Peas, I have the Platinum card. And other than the 2 or 3 "special" offerings they have, plus a birthday discount, it offers nothing that trips my trigger. But I do love the fact that Sephora is linked on the website. I buy a lot there.

I buy a ton of stuff from them at Christmas time.

Yeah, umm, cough - I could do some serious damage in there. I'm sort of glad to hear that the perks aren't anything to go crazy over. (I did manage to get a coupon from the clerk for an extra discount on the clothes I bought.) I think that will be my strategy!

Hey, thanks tdakpj! I signed up my hub's JCP, and clicked on CLI. Got the $1800! Perfect for us, because we use the card only once every couple of months, and always PIF.

I buy bed linens, towels, dishes, etc. at JCP. I think they have fairly good selection and good deals in their catalogs.

Great Lyyssa!

I love when they have the white sales, sheets, bedding on sale. Higher count sheets much nicer and last longer. I usually go straight to the clearance section, then you still get the extra 15% off with the card even with the 75% off clearance.

I only use it every few month or so, but I may just use it once a month (very small purchase) and pay it right off to see what happens. This way you get another CLI and it lowers your UTIL at the same time.

OH, and once you're a preferred (higher credit) member they will give you free catalogs too. My statement had free coupon on bottom for one, so check bottoms of statements.

Does anyone know how long you need to have the card b4 they'll give you a CLI? Also, how often you can request one?

I've had a JCP MC card for about a year (b4 I had the regular store card for years & years).. CL $8,000... pfico score of 742 (up from 719, yea!)... I requested a CLI via their website and was denied.

JCP is issued by GEMB. All GEMB issued cards, you can ask for CLI once every 4 months.

I'm piggybacking off of this thread b/c it's so recent.

I rec'd my cli denial letter in the mail from GEMB/Old Navy. The reason they denied is b/c I need to show 4 months of activity at my new limit. This new limit was an auto cli, so it sounds like the 4 month rule is for either requested or auto clis.

It's not too hard to maintain ZERO, right? (I did recently use the card but it is now PIF. How much more responsible can I get?)
