Circuit City - Drivesl License Required?

I'm trying to apply online for CC Visa because they seem to pull Efx exclusively and that is hte only CRA reporting all my good accounts and no open collections.

I went online, they require a driver's license. I don't have one (New Yawk boy) or State ID (I use my passport as ID), anyway around this besides finding one?

didn't you need some sort of picture id to get a passport? or did you get it as a minor or just kept renewing it?

I had to gather all sorts of other ID as I remember. I'll have to go get State ID I think before this expires because it is a pain w/o license.

Never mind. I see it. When you click "Apply online", it asks Driver's License Number and License State other than SSN and DOB. And it is marked as "Required" information.

It is not just Circuit City. I checked with Target, and it also asking your Driver's License Number and License State. This is normal information they need when you apply for Credit Card.

Have you apply to any credit card online before?

Yes, I did HSBC (approved), Hooters (approved), Citi (not). No one asked for License.

I guess I'll have to do these over the phone.

I don't know how it is in other states, but in Arkansas we're given the choice of generating a DL #, or using our SS as our DL #. My dl # is generated, but from what I've seen most people use their ssn.

From all the store card online apps that I've seen, it seems that absolutely all of them ask for the DL#.

I must say that is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Your SSN as your DL number? Is this so any cop, bank teller, liquor store cashier, or mugger who sees your driver's license can more easily steal your identity?

I know. That's why I chose to have my dl # generated. I'm so worried about my ssn I don't even carry the card in my wallet. But most people I've seen use their ssn, I guess because they can remember it. :/

That's not paranoid, it's smart. You are *not* supposed to carry your SS card in your wallet or have your SSN on your person at all. If you do and your wallet gets stolen, your identity goes with it.

You should be proud of yourself!!

The SS Office tells us to not carry the SS Card in our wallet nor in our purse, they tells us to leave it in our home where is safe. You need to take your SS card with you when you have asked (by employer, and etc for official), and you need to put SS card back where you normally keep it in your home as soon as you come home.

The other thing .... shred all of your papers with your names and addresses on it before you through it away, includes junk mails.

Update: Went into Circuit City, they used my passport instead, approved instantly for $3k Visa.

Equifax is treating me well. I really did this mainly as a test, as I am planning on applying for Target Visa and Amazon Chase both of which seem to pull Efx as well. I want to wait until the Cap1 CO is off (I DV'd, let's see) and the Amex AU is on which should bump me up 50 points or so and give add 28 years to my credit-length.

Good news if with current set-up (650, old Cap1 CO, Paid Collection, credit-length 10 years) I can get $3k.
