Bank of America card for college student?

Has anyone here app'd for a regular (not student) Bank of America card while still a college student? DD#2 needs a second card, and she keeps getting letters about the AAA (as in tow truck, not American Airlines typo) card. DH already has the card, and it has been great, but I don't know how they are for students. She made about $4K (declared) last year. She also had some babysitting cash income.

She's opted out, so the online pre-app site doesn't help, and I know it took a good while after I opted back in before I could get any offers to come up. She really needs to go ahead and get it now. Scores approaching 700's, only one 30-day late, 13 months ago, tried to keep util at 10% or under. She has a USAA MC and a Gap store card now.

edit: took the AAA out of the thread title. Any experience with any BofA card would be great!

Message Edited by haulingthescoreup on 03-21-2008 05:59 PM

My best credit card in terms of APR is my BoA card, which I applied for in college. I applied my sophomore year of college. I got approved for a $2K limit initially with a 5.9% Fixed APR. I now have a 12.5K CL and the same APR.

Many of my old school mates did not like the BoA student cards due to the higher APRs...

Good luck to your DD!

I'm in college and successfully got the BoA worldpoints card and a FIA Merrill Lynch card with 9.9 rates. However, I've been an AU on my dad's long-time BoA/MBNA card so I don't know if there was a difference in my cards terms because of my relationship with the bank.

I have a BOA student card, which I received on accident. I know everyone is like how did I do it on accident. I went in to re-take my photo on my card because a lot of stores were saying it wasn't me.
Before I took the picture, she was talking about these credit cards and I told her I was just wanting to re-take my photo. Then, she said are you ready and I said yes, and she said you have been approved and I was like you have to be approved for a photo now? I know it's been a while, but has it been that long? She was like no, you got approved for the card. After telling her I didn't want it, I still ended up keeping it.

I told myself it couldn't hurt because I needed a Visa card anyway. I currently only had a Discover card and you all know it's not widely accepted! When I tried to get a lower rate they asked so many questions:

What's your occupation?
How long have you worked there?
How much do you make a year?
Do you have any liquid assets?
How much?

I was like I'm not applying for a new card or loan. All I want is a lower rate. Sheesh! They did give me a lower rate, but I'm not sure if it was a soft pull or a hard pull. I will have to wait until July (I check my CBR every 4 mos) to see.
