Basic Amex Backdating Quetions: Need some help.

Amex backdated my New Amex Card to 1996 (previously was a member, closed card). I opened the New Amex Card in January of this year 2013 (1/13).

My question is. On my 3 CRs the card reports as opened in 1/13 and only shows on time payments from 1/13. My card has Member Since 1996 as does my online account. How do I get the benefit of backdating on my CR? or is there no benefit to backdating an Amex on my credit report?

Average age of accounts is one component of FICO score Models and that should increase giving your FICO scores a boost in a little while.

You are recieving the benefits of the increased AAOA percentage and length of credit. However, each respective payment history will remain with each individual card. If you are looking for a way to "get or show" positive past payment history starting today and going backwards 7 or so years, I do not know of any cards that will "falsify or create" that sort of data. I too, have closed and reopened an Amex account and was reported the same way.

The year the account was open will eventually report your member year. Have you let a balance report? Has the card info been updated since you got your memberdate set back to your original start date.

My Zync card reports an open date of January 2011, but was actually openned in January 2012. So it does backdate. May just take some time. Though payment history isn't created for the back dating time but will only be noticed under manual review.

I guess I will wait a couple more months to see if they update the Account Open to 1996 (Member Since Date). Its been 6 months and it hasn't updated yet. And yes, I do use the card quite often with a balance.

If it's been six months since you had your card and account page updated with your MSD (1996) and it's still not showing on your reports, you might want to contact them about correcting it on your reports, if you have had a balance or payment to report in those 6 months. The easiest thing to say to them is:

"I've been an AMEX Member since 1996, it's not reporting as such to my credit reports, I would like my reports to reflect my Original Member Since Date, as my card and account page do, who would I speak with or can you help me with that?"

It's polite but about the right way to ask about it. Don't use the term "Back date" in any way or at any time.

If the phone rep seems less than helpful, you might want to try chat or a secure message from your acct page.
