It means that at the time, Chase had given you the max amount of credit they could offer you based on your credit profile and income. Obviously if that was awhile ago, things may have changed. If your scores have risen significantly or income has also increased, then if you're willing to take a HP, call them and ask for a CLI

Thanks. I know i can just ask for a CLI, I guess I was just hoping to get more specific details on how they view the ceiling or an additional card or anything. I suppose that's not possible without a hard pull though. Oh well. I know Chase does account reviews twice a year, but not sure if they actually re-evaluate that.

A product change typically doesn't come with an inquiry (I assume that is true for Chase as well).

I highly doubt Chase will tell you their formula for setting max credit limit. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that you just have to apply and see. But if you apply for a new card and get denied for already having been extended sufficient credit, you can recon and see if they will open the card if you move some credit over from your existing account(s).

The only way to find out is to try, or in some cases you can ask. Although they won't tell you how they calculate it, if your're lucky you may be given an idea of where you stand. When I told them I was thinking about applying for another card since none of mine had an EMV chip but was worried that I might hit my internal limit, I was told that I was nowhere near my limit and I'd be fine. The Ritz Carlton card then started being issued with EMV chips, so once they sent me my new one that problem was solved.

Once you have Chase for a year, they will most likely give you a higher internal credit limit, unless you have recent baddies on your report or low income. Your curent cards have a lower limit and will grow over time with CLI requests or perhaps auto-cli's if you are lucky.

I would say that not receiving an auto CLI on account review doesn't have much to do with your internal limit being reached or increased. They seem to be sort of "random" with auto-CLI's as well. I have seen many people on these boards say they didn't get a auto CLI, but apped for a new card, and got it with a decent limit.

For example, I got a Freedom and CSP last June/July. Both were used regularly, but i carried a balance for a while on the Freedom (0% for 15 mos for purchases). The Freedom got a auto-CLI of 2.2k in December. The CSP to date has received no auto CLI. I recently apped for The Chase Marriott, and was approved with a 15.1 k limit. That brings my total limits with Chase to 41k.
