So, I applied for the CSP last night... probably against my best wishes (I was/am in the garden!). Well, I was declined, and when I called to recon, the gentleman said that it's because I've recently been approved for two Chase cards and there was a "maximum" amount of Chase cards within a two month period. I tried to recon again, and got the same answer, and the guy suggested I build history with them (which, thanks to this forum, I know very well what he speaks of).

Interestingly enough, I didn't get an alert on CS nor on my AMEX Credit Secure for my Experian report. I think they didn't even pull the report, b/c the system recognized that and declined it before they could pull it. I am not going to try my luck again and recon, since I don't want the HP, and I'm going to cut my losses. But my question -- is this a possibility? This has happened before... when I apped for the Freedom, a couple of weeks after the Chase Amazon Visa, they used the same report to approve me -- they didn't pull another.

What say you?

That's interesting you got a 2 card denial. I app'd for a Freedom and CSP in the same day, then 2 weeks later app'd for the United Mileageplus. I think the Freedom/CSP was on the same pull, but the United was a separate. I was approved for all 3, but i wonder if that's because the United is a co-branded card?

It may be their policy based on no prior relationship with them. If you didn't get a HP (You may want to check your other two reports besides experian to make sure) than you should just wait 6 months and apply. Would probably get you a higher beginning CL than reconning now would.

Rather than to pay for a report right now, I think your best bet is to call recon and ask if they pulled and if they did, what bureau did they pull from. Could also try appealing the decision too while you are at it
