After more than 2 years of established credit with Cap1, with their Cap1 secured card, $3300 limit. I want my deposit back now and I figured I've earned trust with Cap1 as far my credit utility goes, 2 years, never late.

I went ahead and applied for their Platinum Prestige Card because that's the only card without an annual fee and why would I want a Cap1 card with fee when I have Chase Freedom and Amex Green already. And to my surprise, big fat rejection.

I tried to call their application specialist # but like most ppl have said in this forum, they are as useless as their online chat representative who pretty much just reading off a script, EX. The guy asked if I have Excellent Credit, Average Credit or Bad Credit, I gave him my credit score and he told me I need to pick one out of 3 options, like a stupid robot, I closed the window right then and there.

I'm gonna go ahead and cancel my Cap1 card anyway. They've been great in extending credit to ppl with bad credit to get back on their feets, but their regular cards and customer service will never be up to par compared to some prime card providers.

you could always try calling their executive office and have them review things for you and see if they can approve you for the prestige card and maybe ask to have your annual fee refunded for secured card. Most people say not to cold call them but maybe in your case a call might actually yield results.

best of luck!

How much of your available credit is tied up with Cap1? I wouldn't get rid of them until you have a new line of credit in place to replace them.

Contact the EO via email...They WILL get back to, sometimes the same day if you email early enough.. Be professional and explain your case and what your expectations are. If your numbers are good and with the tradelines you have, they should give you a decent limit no-fee card..

I would just go ahead and drop Capital One and say good riddance. I've been with them on two cards since 1999, closed one last year after they wouldn't increase from $2,100. This week I asked for a CLI from $5,800 on my remaining one, and they said no.

So I applied for and was instantly approved for AMEX BCP ($16,400) and Barclay's Arrival World Card ($12,500).

After 14 years, and with a MYFico EQ of 788, Capital One wouldn't even listen. Barclay's has a $400 signup offer, easy online application and no foreign transaction fees. Goodbye and Good riddance to Capital One.
