Suggestions for New Card Apps

It's been a couple of years since I applied for any new CC's until yesterday when I joined DCU and got their CC (5K). I was thinking of trying for a couple of others now also. I currrently have Citi Dividend, BofA, Chase, U.S. Bank, Kroger1-2-3, Discover and Toyota.

Any suggestions for new lines - I was contemplating Walmart (for the free FICO) but they don't seem to give big initial lines or Amazon Store Card just because I don't have any GE. Or maybe another Citi? I don't really want to try AMEX because the last time I had them they only gave me a 2K limit and then dropped it down to 1K a few months later. Plus I don't like annual fees!

My scores are approx. 710 to 725. I really don't want to cause any of my current lines to consider decreasing my limits so should I only app for 1 or maybe 2 more? Which banks are more likely to reevaluate the limits I already have if they notice me getting new lines?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

While you may not get the big CLI at first YMMV

GE cards can grow into monster CLI's

Walmart is a good card and the free TU fico is a big plus

That's what I was thinking - Walmart will be my first choice. Should I stop there or try for one more before I start gardening again?

Depends on your needs

Do you need travel miles, cash back etc

Save on dinning, groceries etc

Rewards/Cash Back are great! Generally are the best rewards cards harder to qualify for?

What chase card do you have?

And didn't see a discover in your wallet?

I have Chase Slate and they also decreased my CL (8K to 3K gradually) after I got the card. I think I paid my daughter's college tuition on it and it made them nervous since I'd just gotten the card (that was about 3 years ago). I'll be smarter this time and make very small charges and PIF so no red flags. I was definitely balance chased by them last time.

I do have Discover and my limit is up to 6.1K on it. Would that keep me from getting Discover IT?

You can PC to the it card and it sounds to me you were just one of the unlucky chase customers that they reduced limits on during the banking down turn

That being said I think with your relationship with chase freedom or CSP would be a great selection for you might even be able to PC one and apply for the other...They make a great 1 - 2 punch togetrher

Are you sure you want new cards? If you're looking for more credit, you can request credit limit increases for your current cards and thus avoid damaging your AAoA. If you're looking for rewards, you can request PC's from your current cards. Most major lenders are represented in your portfolio. What is it that you're looking for in new cards?

Congrats on DCU. IMO, rather than applying or new cc's I would PC the Chase to a Freedom, Discover More to It like HiLine suggested. If you bank with BoA - PC to Better Balance Rewards.
The Walmart cc is good for the free TU score and you will probably receive the Wal/Disc - if you want a new cc.
