How hard is it to get a cap1 venture card? Are they good cards I don't here them talked about too much here

As long as your credit is good..you should not have any problems as its Cap1's top tier card...Their is 2 types they offer..one gives you 2 miles for every dollar you spend..but it comes with a $59 yearly fee..The other is the Venture one which gives you 1.25 miles for every dollar you spend as there is no membership fee...I have the venture card and I use it a lot have have racked up a ton of miles...if you read money mag..its rated as one of the top rewards cards to get..also chase has the CSP which is also a great rewards card..The fee is alittle bit more $95..But they have a 1:1 point transfer which is very good..

I called and spoke to a rep before he said I needed a card with above 5000 cl for at least 3 years. Sounds kinda tough. I have a discover with 6000 cl but its only 3 months old

just an FYI. the 5000 is any kind of credit not just a credit card. i thought that too and they my freind applied and she got it and only had a 3600 Highest limit card. so if u have a mortage or car loan it counts.

The Venture was my first card since coming back. Its a visa signature with 5k CL and I like it a lot. I got it after I was denied for the CSP due to not enough open revolvers. At the time of my application I had one closed out chase card on my report which was a 3k limit which was closed out in 2007 and paid off and a banana republic card for a few months before I closed it. That being said I have a number of long term student loans. My approval was instant and I did not try to recon the cl or anything since I was just happy someone said yes to me!

They are inquiry sensative as well as I have most recently found. The Venture is the very last card I wanted (although it's not a need) and I apped during a spree and was my only denial. My recent HPs from the mortgage process hurt me. I will reapply in a year as my inqs age out. Good luck, it's a great all around travel card.

I have 8 inq on ex. 3 on Eq 2 Tu. I have a car loan that is 2 years old in sept. and a mortgage that is only 3 months old do I need to wait til the car loan is 3 years old?

Not sure on the length of time you should wait, but Cap 1 will pull all 3 reports.

I have a cap1 rewards cards only have a 750 cl though not sure if that helps. Been paying on it for 19 months lot of use never late

I was first denied..But I recon thur the EO.and was approved..And I had a ton of inquries on all 3 reports

I don't get the love for the Venture card. It's one advantage that I see is no FTF. Other than that it is 2% card where redemptions have to be used against travel charges (albeit interpreted liberally). It's not really a travel card, it's a pseudo-cash-back card, which isn't necessarily bad, but it has an AF unlike Fidelity Amex (and the former priceline 2%) and restricts what you can redeem against.

So yes for FTF, but if you do a lot of foreign travel, a real miles earning card might be more useful, and if you don't, Fidelity Amex seems better.

Correct me if I am missing something about this card, which really does get great press!

I use it for car rental and it provides better insurance than the basic Amex insurance. Rental companies if you damage their car will want you to pay for the time the car is out of service etc. The venture will do this. Amex wil refuse to pay and then you can end up on the hook with the rental company for the difference. Also, Amex caps the value of the car at 50k where the venture does not (granted it can't be a specialty card etc). That is one benefit I noticed over the Amex. That being said the venture benefits are not unique to venture its the visa signature that results in that.

Well, *my* view is that it isn't, but many others think it is. If the rewards offered seem to be enough benefit to outweigh the AF, go for it!

There is no "best" card for everyone, and one that is good enough is, um, good enough.

I think the venture is a good card. Amex can be a soft pull if you already have a card with them. In general if you are a member already its soft pull if denied HP if approved, but its not guaranteed to be a SP even if you have a card.
