Barclay's Visa Black Card

Ok, so I know what most of you think of the Visa Black card on here.. but here's my story and my question..

Plain and simple, I WANT a metal credit card. Obviously I will never get the AMEX or the J.P Morgan one.. and I don't like Chase. I don't think there are any others, and if there are, I doubt I'd qualify for one. But anyway.. I just really want a metal card. Not so much for the 'prestige' because I don't typically use my card where I have to hand it to someone anyway.. I just honestly really like the idea and would consider it a personal accomplishment to have one in my wallet. Aside from that, I'm tough on my cards, requesting new ones at least every other month.

I applied for it on Friday. My score was 703 when I applied. They pulled TU. I called the backdoor number.. the analyst put me on hold forever to try and get it approved. He said everything was fine except the number of inquires I had was too many and the computer wouldn't let him put it through. I told him the inquires were fraudulent for the most part because of an exgirlfriend.. Hence the longterm security freeze on my credit reports. He said he would approve it, but the computer wouldn't allow him to. Long story short, I sent an email over to the executive office to see if they could get it approved anyway. I'll see what happens.

I know the $495 annual fee is outrageous.. but I noticed that I'll get at least half that back after I spend $1,500 in 90 days for the first year.. plus I'll make up the rest from the points I'll earn. Aside from that, there is a 0% intro rate which will come in handy. I know the rewards besides that stink.. I have the flagship visa from NFCU and they are about the same.. not that I use them anyway. I'm not really one for rewards regardless because I tend to carry a balance that would typically wipe out the reward benefits anyway with the interest that is charged. I use a card all the time because it's safer than a debit card, that's really the only reason.

I want this card. I've noticed a few people on here who have it. How do you like it? And if you don't why do you keep it and why did you apply for it to begin with? What was your score when you applied? What was your initial limit and what are you at now?

Bottom line.. Having a metal card is an accomplishment regardless. It's not 'easy' to get, but it's certainly not invite only. I really want it. Anybody on here that has ever wanted a card simply because of how it looks and who it's through can understand that right?

As much as you want a metal card, they scratch easily too by the way I would stick with a regular Visa Sig.

I do think however that as much as the benefits of the Visa Black are similar and more in line with the AMEX platinum, the AMEX Plat covers more in terms of $$. The Visa Black Card offers 24/7 legal, medical, and financial emergency travel services, as does the Platinum Card and the Centurion Card. All three cards offer travel accident insurance. The Visa Black Card offers up to $250,000 insurance while the AMEX Plat offers $500,000 insurance.

I’ll stick with a free Visa Signature Card, which also comes with concierge services, purchase security, and all features at levels identical to the Visa Black Card.

Is it metal? I don't know (never seen one)...but I hope so for the OP's sake, since that sounds like the only reason he apped for the card in the first place.

Sorry, I mistyped.. kind of. I know it's made of carbon fiber.. but I would put it in the relative category of 'metal' cards.. or cards made of something more 'impressionable' so to speak...

At least I hope it is, for my sake. haha. You have one right? What does it feel like? Is it heavier? Does it bend easy?

Its not metal. Its not even carbon fiber. Its carbon, i.e. plastic.

Yeah, it's not metal. It's definitely carbon or carbon like. My Chase Sapphire Preferred is a lot heavier.

The Visa Black Card being Metal was about the only thing that made it very interesting when it first came out... but it's Barclay, they went cheap...

Rewards basically like your Navy Flagship... unless something huge has changed They are like First Premier to Navy... Are you kidding me! You earn 2% on your Flagship... Black card is 1 to 1 and that's if it converts to a full 1 to 1.

I'm all about some cards... but you HAVE A BLACK CARD!

That analyst did you a huge favor... sorry on this one.

What are your problems with Chase? Getting the CSP certainly sounds like it would make you happy and be a lot cheaper.

The " Black Card " is a nice cc to have however I just can't justify paying $495.00 fee every year

Sorry to disappoint..but no its not metal...and its not like what you would imagine "carbon fiber".

It is very light, seems to be thinner than even a standard credit card.

It does have a unique feel / texture to it but, it does not have that WOW FACTOR to it.

The fee is not waived the first year....it is billed to you shortly after you activate the card.

Is it worth it?? That question is hard to answer to the general public.

If you mean worth it in return for your investment by way of rewards, I would have to say No...you would do better with the Amex Platinum but thats a charge card and not a credit card.

I can only use myself as an example to say yes the card is worth the $495 for me!!! ONLY because of self gratification. When this card first came out, it was my goal card!!

Although I have better cards in my wallet.....I still wanted this card to finally reach a goal that I set forth on a long time ago. So for me the $495 is worth it...even if the benefits are not great.

It never cross through my mind about the black card but my goal is to get the penfed Amex next year if I get in the 700' club but for now If I apply it would the NavyFCU flagship will be black card even tho I love NavyFCU.....
