AMEX charge card hard limit.

Has anyone else had a hard limit placed on their charge card?... how long was the limit enforced for? 6 months? 1 year? When I first opened my personal Platinum card I had a $5,000 limit that lasted for 12 months to the day! then, 3 years later, I have another limit of $42,100 due to a funky spending pattern... kinda annoying, but I figured it's a high limit so who cares. I'm almost at the 6 month mark for this one...

That's interesting as it's way above most CCs regular CL. Could you describe "funky spending pattern" in more detail? What was your high balance when they imposed the limit?

My spending is pretty eratic too but Amex has never been an issue. Amex info in the siggy.

Maybe I didn't tell the WHOLE story haha. I added my brother as an AU. He spends like crazy and I wanted the points! After adding him, he took 2 trips and spent about $10,000 on each trip. He made payments after each trip but I guess it was such a spike it flagged. That's the reason they have me anyways. I understand they need to protect themselves and they don't know me or my brother from Adam, so it's cool. The balance when they enforced the limit was the credit limit they imposed. $42,100. Never late. Always PIF

Ah! Probably not so much the amount as it was by an AU. Did the AU also pay his bill directly to Amex? I think Amex sees payments by the account holder as less risky than payments made by an AU.

Did you put CLs on your AU? I have two AUs and limit their monthly expenses to 10k but they usually come in at about 1k actual. I pay everything on autopay.

Actually, he transferred me money through BofA and I paid the bill. At the time, he wasn't set up to pay his own charges and some lame brain csr flat out told him he couldn't and that I had to make the payments. So I continued to until about 3 months later when I set his banking info up online and now he does it on his own. No I did not impose any limit on his card.

They sent me a letter stating the $42,100 limit

I suspect that AMEX willl probably review the limit at some point and remove it. Although as you said it's considerable higher than you would likely need so not much of a problem....
