Recons Work, They Really Do!!!

I'm done for a while. Today was a success with 2 out of 3 cards approved! Amazon gave me this message after applying:

Thank you for applying for the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card.

Unfortunately, an immediate decision about your application can not be provided as it requires further review. You will be notified in writing about the status of your application within 30 days.

I looked up the back door number for Chase and spoke to a very nice guy who asked me lots of questions about collections and inquiries and after being placed on hold for 4 more times, he came back and told me he was able to approve me for a small credit limit of $500. That's ok, have to start somewhere. The results of today are:

WalMart = NO Discover IT = $2200 CL Amazon Chase = $500 CL

Tried to recon WalMart again and got the same message that once the system denies the application, they can't override the decision.

GE and usually Discover, will not recon apps. It's a yes or a no

I reconed my Discover 7-10 day message, is that different? They wanted to ask a few ?s about a CO from 2008

Not really going against you, but I do think that the term "recon" gets misued. In my opinion, a reconsideration is when the application is declined and the decision is overturned. A non instant approval does not mean a denial, so it isn't being reconsidered until it is actually declined.

That is why I asked for clarification on my call to Discover, when I got the 7-10 day message. Had I not called, I don't think I would have gotten the card but I know it was not an outright denial.

IMO, if you would not have received the card without a call, then that was a recon. The app was more or less pending and your call was necessary. Similar to Id/verification calls.

Yes, a 'full' recon is reversing a decision. Maybe we need to have degrees/stages of recons.

I was planning on doing a recon on my approval for Barclays. So just because I got approved for an amount, I can still ask for more possibly? And if they say no, it won't knock the original amount? Don't want to rock the boat.

Recons are also manual reviews. If your approval was borderline you may want to wait for their auto CLI. If you are confident in your file, then go for it.
