Need a Good Hotel Rewards/ Sign up Bonus Card!

I really want my cards to work for me! I plan to take at least one trip per year and need a card that will give me points throughout the year for these hotel stays! I am now looking for a card with a decent sign up bonus to help cover the cost of my stay in Washington D.C. this coming winter! The AMEX Hilton Honors card gives a decent sign up bonus but it seems like the Hilton points aren't worth as much as others. The SPG seems decent! Another others? I know Chase has a few and maybe Citi? Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you stay at specific properties? are you going to put a lot of spend on the card? I ask because a lot of the branded cards give 2x when your booking stays with them and 1x with everything else.

I'd consider Barclays Arrival. $89 AF, 2x on all purchases not just travel. I believe the sign up bonus is still 40k points after 1k spend in the first 3 months. You can redeem the points towards travel purchases.

Club Carlson if you can find one of their properties where you are headed. 50K points first purchase and another 35K points after $2,500 spend in 90 days. 40K yearly loyalty bonus. The biggest perk on this card is Bonus Award Nights - if you stay 2 or more nights and use points for the stay the last night is free. That's huge if you can find a property.

Second best is IHG formerly Priority Club. 60K points after $1K spend in 90 days, Platinum status forever with card and free night worldwide at 1 year. Properties everywhere.

Then you have the Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton etc. All fine programs, I just think best value are the two cards I detailed.

Chase Marriott is offering a nice sign up right now. 50k points after 1k in spending in 3 months, free night after account approval, and a free night each year on cardmember anniversary, at cat 1-4 properties. 5x points at Marriott, and 1 point everything else.

I like the Hyatt card free 2 nights after a 1k spend at any of their hotels, then 1 free night per year at a cat 1-4 on your anniversary. You can stay at some nice places and Hyatt play status as long as your a cardholder.

Or CSP 40k bonus, can transfer to a few different hotel partners for flexibility.

I say pick your hotel brand first then look for cards that can help you.
