Macy's AMEX Upgrade - No HP!!

I was just upgraded to the AMEX without a hard pull this week. I went online on Tuesday and sent a secure message regarding upgrade to Maxcy's AMEX (following directions on website in FAQ's). I got asecure message back about an hour later to call in. I called, and they said it would not be a hard pull, and they would "put the request in." The CSR said they don't give the decision over the phone, and I would either get the new card or a letter in the mail in the next 7-10 days. I checked today, and online, it says Macy's American Express Account. I called the automated account services tonight, limit is 10k! My Macy's stor card limit was 1k, Club account limit (Used once to buy a ring) is $1800. Accounts have been open since 2009. I checked my reports, no hard pulls have shown up on any bureau for this upgrade.

What's your aaoa on EX since they pull EX when upgrading? Thats awesome that they did that with out a HP! So it took them 4 days to upgrade!?! Thats great!

EDIT: Also what card did you have Red, Gold, Platinum, or Elite?

I was shocked at the limit! I do use the store card for 300-400 every 2-3 months. Was really just trying to get CLI's on store accounts that I use most often, W/O a HP - been apping too much lately! Was surprised that CSR knew what she was talking about when she said no HP. According to their FAQ's online:

We offer 2 levels of Macy's American Express® cards. These cards are offered only to cardholders who have met the basic spending guidelines on their Macy's store credit card account and meet our Macy’s American Express card credit criteria.

The basic spending guidelines for the Macy's store credit card account:

Macy's American Express card- Macy's store annual spending of $0-$999
Macy's Preferred American Express card- Macy's store annual spending of $1,000 or more

To have your account reviewed for an upgrade to Macy's American Express, please contact Credit Services.

They keep your store card open when they give you the amex, so now I still have store account, and club account along with AMEX with a separate limit. Only downside is AMEX will report as a newly opened card, kind of like how GE does when they give you a upgrade of Walmart store card. The new account doesn't bother me, as I have no upcoming major purchases on the horizon.

Boy, the things you can get into while reading this forum.

I had the Red store card, but I probably should have qualified for Gold after most recent spending on account. My scores are in my Signature, AAoA on EX is 5.2 years. Oldest account 19 yrs old.

The Macy's AMEX version only comes in two flavors - White (spend < $999 annually) or Black/Preferred (spend >$1000 annually). If the store card was in Red, Gold or Platinum, then the AMEX version will be White. Likewise, if it was the Black (Preferred) version, then the AMEX should arrive in the same color.

I would say you have a decent chance enharu. Just remember, Barclays is watching if you add another TL... LOL! However, I think you'll be fine - follow the OP's strategy to see if you can upgrade it via SP.

Plus, both cards have great benefits IMO if you shop them frequently and have added flexibility using the AMEX anywhere else - I have both the Macy's AMEX Preferred (formerly Visa Preferred) and the Bloomingdale's Reserve AMEX (also a former Visa Preferred).

If they just gave you a $10k limit on Amex, and you only have $1k on store... You need to start requesting!!! every 3 months with store and 6 for Amex... although lately it's been said a few different things... but store is every 3!

you can do it online chat... they tell you hp but it's not... it's computer and they use the sp already in the computer.

Not that I don't want to apply, but I can't. Reported balances are still too high as it is.
And since I can wait till August, I might as well wait till end of sept or early October. Might just reduce odds of Barclays AA by a little. If I open anymore new accounts before the 6 month mark I'm very sure they are going to close my account :/

Also might try to get pre approved for a mortgage next month, but still uncertain at this point in time, since a lot of the sellers seem to prefer cash offers over mortgage.
