Mine is 22.24%. I am going to attempt to get it lowered this winter when I've had the card for more than a year. But it's definitely not a card I carry a balance with.

It's my highest APR card, but I try not to worry to much about it.

So you said its statistical ,show the research.

It's simple, AMEX is not going to lower that APR until you are elegible, otherwise you would have qualified for better APR terms when you applied and got approved for the account - that's pretty statistical. I don't belive it was implied they were going to FR or do any type of AR if your account carried this balance for a long period of time. From an internal score basis they can pretty much review your payment habits, purchases and other behavioral patterns to determine whether (a) you can qualify for a better product, (b) have your APR lowered, (c) qualify for a CLI, etc.

But, on the surface, it appears like your ran out of time, balance is $1,300 and now you need to park your balance with better APR terms... Not to sound harsh but sorry AMEX is just not budging.

Cant believe everything you read on here.

@FinStar wrote:

@Anonymous wrote:

So I have the BCE and my 0 % promo just ended and my new apr is 20.24 percent. I called up to see what they could do and they told me that I have the highest and that unless amex changes the rate for everyone , mine wont change. They also said the lowest for my card is 15.2% and that the rewards cards have alot higher aprs.

Just wondering if the lady was clueless and what everyone else's is because 20% is a joke.

If you PIF this should be no issue. AMEX is not one that favors revolving balances for an extended period. Additionally, your card needs to be open/in good standing for >12 months to be considered for a lower APR. If your account is not elegible at that point, then the APR remains as is.

Has nothing to do with what's read on here. More statistical than anything plus IME with AMEX in 20+ years (business & personal) I can pretty much gauge them on how some of these policies apply.

show me the research to back it up. Like I said if anything , it should of happened to me already. I am a student with practically no income and a 15k credit limit and always carry over a 1k balance and they have never given me a problem.

Not to sound harsh but sorry AMEX is just not budging.

you totally dodged the question because you have no answer lol. The research was on the fact that amex doesnt like carrying balances. As for your dumb comment , I could care less about 20 bucks a month in interest , I just think with my credit profile , I deserved a better APR . All there was to it.

When you want to respond to my original question though and stop dodging , ill be waiting. You said it was stastical , so prove it. And dont even try coming back saying read the forums and thats your proof , because I already gave mention to that.

I have no idea what my APR are on any of my cards. Whether or not AmEx cares if you carry a balance or not is pointless to me. Paying interest at all on a credit card is a fools game (to me - not trying to insult anyone as heaven knows I have paid my share years ago).

I watched a PBS Frontline documentary on the credit card industry a week or so ago and it was pretty clear that the 0% interest was the creation to lead people down the path of "just paying a little interest". Revolvers are the cash cows for the banks. Andrew Kahr was the genius who finally decided to stop lowering rates from 18% to 15% to 12% to 9% and just said "offer them 0% for a period of time". It worked. Credit card debt has exploded, and I can only hope that people having issues with excessive credit card debt find My Fico and seek advice from those who have been there and worked it out. (I'm not saying the OP has this issue at all).

So yeah lionsfan20, your post 0% interest period rate sucks but you did have 0% for a while. Thank Andrew Kahr for the help, and he's thanking you for carrying a balance as that was what he predicted would happen.

Not sure how Amex decides, but my APRs varies widely.

1. Blue for Business - 11.24%

2. BCP - 12.99%

3. SPG - 15.24%

4. POT - 18.99%

Initially, if I recall, my BCP was 20.24%, but was reduced this year.

FIrst Amex, one week old, 18.99 and from what I've seen around here the minimum CL for BCE. Would have liked a better rate but don't plan to pay interest anyway.
