I want another card , discover declined, cap1?

I just got declined from DIscover IT card. BOFA upgraded my old card to a cash rewards so I'm really happy about that. I want another credit card to help build payment history since I don't have any. Think I have a chance at a Capital one card? Which one is easiest from them? ( I heard journey is ) .

Do you have the reasons for the Discover decline? That can help determine likelihood of getting Cap One or another card.

Are you a student? I thought Cap One Journey was for students

I have had the Cap1 Platinum for years but just got it PC'd to the Quicksilver. I havent had any issues with Cap1 other than having to pry them open for a CLI. Cap1 makes a lot of its business in sub-prime cards. The problem with that is they like to start with very low CL's. If I were you I would start with the Journey(if a student) or Platinum and PC the card to the venture or Quicksilver in a year.

If you have issues getting approved or a CLI or any other issues with Cap1, message their facebook and they will send up the complaint/question to their EO. I have yet to talk to someone who got fully denied what they wanted while going through their facebook page.

BOFA upgraded your old CC to cash rewards card?? **bleep**.. I mean great for you but they told me to apply for the cash rewards and they can convert everything to the new card and when i called they said they can't convert the history to the new card and they'll do a hard pull to transfer the 500 Cl to my new card
after speaking with the supervisor she said the same thing but made up for it for a CLI to 5000

why no CLI on Bank of America?

I would try the pre-qual on Citcards.com Chase.com and see if anything is offered to you before applying for more... capital one has a good pre-qual. too.... why cold apply for places you can get a possible warm welcome too!

Based on OPs siggy, her BoA was never used. CS does not tell the whole story. If there isn't a pyt history on rev cc most lenders will take a pass.

How many cards do you currently have? 1 card 700$ limit, 1 student loan around 7k

How long have you had the cards? 4 years but never used before. Now its a cash rewards BOFA and i'm going to use it.

What is your AAoA? card is 4 years, loan is 2. so 3 should be right

What are your scores? 773 equifax fico score from this site but I need to check the rest.

Do you have any baddies? ZERO baddies

How many INQ's in the last year? 1 inq from discover

Use your BofA for 6-9 months PIF and try Discover again

You weren't showing any CC history even tho you had one using it will change this in your favor

I called BOFA to switch it and they said I should be receiving the card in a week or two. backdoor number from this site

Wow, your stats are good. I agree with the previous poster that it would be a good idea to check the prequal pages on Chase and Cap 1 and see if you prequalify for anything. I bet you'd be in good shape for the Freedom. Good luck!

I'm a student at SFSU, about to graduate in one year.

They said I got declined because no payment history

I checked for prequal's and they didnt' show up

I'll say it again...there's more to an approval than a high FICO. Lenders want to see how you use credit and the only way that can happen is with usage.

I understand that now. Gonna wait some months while I use it and wait for pre -qualified offers if there is any for me.
