After the merger the most likely scenario is US Airways and AA miles will be combined; the same thing happened in previous airlines mergers.

Regarding paying tuition with your credit card, I don't think there will be an issue. If they question the purchases, simply explain to them what you did. The reward miles are there to encourage you to spend.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of applying for the US Airways Credit Card and save those miles until it merges with AA. My question is, do you guys know what I can expect after the merger? Is it any chance that Barclay will close my acct for me so I don't need to worry about cancel the card by my own if I want to?

BTW, I'm in college now with 10K tuition that I need to pay for each semester and luckly enough my school allows me to pay by credit card without any additional charge. Do you think it is risky if I use my credit card to pay for 3 or 4 of my friends' tuition as well (they're gonna pay by debit card anyways so it makes no difference for them)? That means I'll probably end up spending a couple thousands each time and pay the balance right off once it is posted. Do you think Barclay might be upset with me spending and earning like 50K miles a month?

You might trigger a financial review if your spending exceeds your income by a long shot. What you could do however is to use different cards issued by different banks for each tuition payment.

No one knows what's going to happen to the AA / US airways miles.
