I had apllied for Citi Simplicity card at few months ago. Citi bank sent me a form (tax form) to fill and to send them back. There was deadline for sending the form back (about a month or two). So I missed deadline. Citi bank specialist said that now I have to apply again.

I want to get this card, but I had 3 inquires before citi bank. 2 inquires from citi added to it will be five. Is there any way to make another inquiry from city acoount to the previous inquiry (4th)? It not really fair if I will have a 2 inquiry for actually same request (and first one wasn't denied).

Well, it's "fair" in that you are making two separate applications for credit! Depending on the time between, you might get them to use the old report instead, but they don't have to. For example, they might wonder why you waited, and want to pull again to get the latest information.

Why it is fair? I apply for the same card to the same bank, I wasn't denied for first one - just was too busy to send them tax report. Both inquires about exact same issue.

I understand why bank want new inquiry (things might dramatically change in a few months), but why the credit bureau can't account new inquiry to the old one? That's what I am talking about. I wasn't looking for credit "twice" - and that what inquires suppose to represent - the degree at which you seeking for credit. So, honestly said - I am seeking for credit once but missed deadline to send taxt report to bank.

Just want to figure out to what place I can appeal with this issue?

You can't appeal it and will have to live with two inquiries. You can ask Citi if they can remove the first one but it would just be wasting time.

Appeal it with Citi directly. Just simply say that you DID in fact send that form back, but the error was their fault because they obviously didn't process it. Simply say the rep you talked to said that you have to reapply..

Then if that doesn't work, dispute it with the CRA. Citi probably won't bother replying to it.. and it will get removed.. Just be careful not to piss Citi off.. They're vindictive.

Good morning everyone! OP may send a request to Citi but to suggest that OP sent the firm back in a timely matter when he clearly stated that it was late - should not be encouraged.

Request the inq to be deleted but in the end OP failed to return the form by the deadline and its their right to request a second inq. It's OP right to not app again with Citi

But Lexie, for the OP to say he did send it back in a timely manner, it would be Citi's responsibility to prove otherwise. This is no different than disputing items on a credit report. If they cannot provide sufficient proof to support what you are disputing, it must be removed by law. Telling Citi it was there error is no different..

This is an inquiry we're talking about, not credit card fraud! Sheesh! Regardless, we're talking about a huge bank here! Having them remove an inquiry on your credit report is going to hurt who, and how.. Regardless of how it's done?

Besides that.. on a side note, do you really think that these big banks became so big because the founders were truthful and honest in their business practices?

We're talking about an inquiry people. You make it seem as if I'm the most unethical person in the world because I suggest doing the same thing any attorney or credit repair agency would suggest! When you dispute, they must verify. If they can't verify, they remove it. What is so wrong with that?

I understand that the dispute process is for inaccuracies.. However, any credit repair agency in existence uses the same method to repair credit. That being said, are you against those too?

@Mopar_Jones

I'm not sure if your reply was addressed to my comments. I, will address your questions/statements.

* I suggested asking them to remove their inquiry- you suggested OP tell them the form was returned timely and as a result it was their error.
*Whether or not big banks are truthful is irrelevant.
* disputing accurate information as inaccurate is unethical
* What a credit repair agency does is also irrelevant in this situation.

@ 09Lexie

The second one was, the first one wasn't..

- I rephrased my suggestion..

- Whether banks are truthful or not was reverent to a comment someone else made about lying and cheating your way through life, in response to me..

- I rephrased my suggestion. If Citi assumes the form was returned when it wasn't, and Cit removes the inquiry as a result of that, that is not unethical.

- A credit repair agency is relevant in this situation for the mere fact that, that is what they do! They stretch and bend the truth and use the loopholes in the system to have negatives removed.

- I will from now on refrain from suggesting 'unethical' practices on this form, however I do want to make it clear that I do not feel it is unethical. It is in my opinion a grey area. Whether or not it is unethical is certainly based upon one's priorities. Only people who walk on water would think that having an inquiry removed by lying to a huge bank is wrong, even if those banks are responsible for the massive housing bubble collapse and millions losing their home and their life savings. - Sorry , that's probably irrelevant too.

Lying to a bank is lying and cheating your way through life.. it's horrible.. Banks are so honest and trustworthy, and they're only there to be your friend and help you whenever you need it!

I said my two cents. I'm done!

@Anonymous wrote:

Hello tonchitos!

You didn't do your due diligence. It is fair and you will have to suck it up and hope they remove the inq if you ask them. Otherwise... more on. You now know... if you want a CC from a lender and they ask you for information.. send it to them on time. That's why they gave you a due date.

Ask Citi to remove the inq because of your circumstances and if they don't... so be it. You tried. I think the answer will be "no".

Good luck!
