What is Exclusive Pre-Approved offer from Wamu means?

I just got a letter from Wamu stating it is an Exclusive Pre-Approved offer for a Platinum Visa. What does it mean? Does it mean a guaranteed approval or let us pull your CR and see if we like your CR kind of thing? I have a previous charge off from Providian. I am not sure why they sent me this offer. Any ideas from those who have experience dealing with Wamu.

A preapproved offer always means they will pull your CR and make their decision based on that and information provided on your application.

If you have a Providian CO, you will be denied. Don't fall for it. They don't check whether everyone they send those things to have prior Providian baddies before they send them.

Pre-approved, in my experience, means CALL US, SUCKER, AND LET US RUN YOUR CREDIT, AND THEN APPROVE YOU FOR 1/2-1/3 OF WHAT WE ADVERTISED ON THE BROCHURE.

I like the idea of being able to get pfico scores from wamu. But I agree with you all. It is a trick and I am going to stay away from this. If they want me bad enough let them keep sending me the offers.

No matter how many offers they send you, that won't change the fact that you have a Providian CO, which means you will be denied.

If you want to apply for WaMu, either get that CO removed or wait for it to drop.

I am not sure what is that I can do get it removed. I am not in a hurry, I'll wait till it drops off my CR. I have real good cards and my scores keep going up. I want to fall for these tricks from the CCC companies.

Oh well, I pushed the button for the pre-approved offer. I got message stating needs further processing and they will get back to me in 14 days by US Mail. They pulled TU for me. Let us see what next two weeks brings to my Wamu App....

I really like the idea of being able to get free pfico scores from Wamu with their cards. If I do get wamu card then I can close my Hooters Card with $35 AF. I am just graduating the cards to higher level. With my TU scores in 700's I might get wamu card. Let us see what I hear from them in the next 2 weeks.

That's the big "if". Concord, it's repeated over and over on this forum that people with Providian COs can't get WaMu cards.

Hi Cheddar, I was reading on other forums on the internet and I read some people did get new wamu card with old providian chargeoffs. Even those posters said they were surprised they were approved for the card. I'll look for that post and I'll post in this message later.

Hi Cheddar, take a look at this link and read the posts from Francie. As the poster states, had a previous Providan Card included in BK and still got a preapproval from Wamu and got the card with $1K CL.

I believe you, concord. But if you're going to apply for yet another credit card, wouldn't you want to apply for one that you would be more likely to get? Maybe you'll get approved applying for a WaMu card with a Providian CO, but is that small possiblity really woth an inquiry to find out?

Wamu must be on a roll. I just got a pre approval offer from them as well. DH and I closed out our accounts with them in February. I've never had any charge offs with them or any cc, but we did have a handful of 30 day lates from 2 years ago. I'm slightly curious to apply... I would like to increase my uti... but I'd like to increase my Fico score as well (inquiries are killing me). I did promise dh I wouldn't apply for anymore cards without talking with him first. Hubby knows I'm on the wagon with the credit apps, and he's making me toe the line.

Did I miss something....is Providian and Wamu the same company? I had a couple of charge offs from Providian that just fell off of my report. I was thinking about applying for Wamu after I get my mortgage squared away.
