I have been building my credit very carefully for the past 4 years. But an overseas trip this year costs my credit a lot. I forgot to make payment on my Walmart GE MoneyCRB Card and they reported the 30-day past due to Credit bureau. My current average credit score is 785 and I am working on securing a mortgage loan soon. After I see the past due alert from my credit monitoring, I tried calling the GE Money/Walmart Credit Card asking them to remove it as a one time courtesy. But they denied my request twice in two days. Does anybody see a hope on getting rid of it from my credit report? if not, how much damage this single mistake costs me? Please reply. Thank you,

Keep sending them GW letters until they remove it. I dealt with the same kind of issue with cards I had with HSBC, but tenacity paid off. I got them to remove a 30 day late from one card and a 90 day late from another.

Like finstar said, there's no need to resort to being dishonest. Most lenders do take account history into consideration, and they are sometimes willing to cut the customer some slack if its just a one-time minor event like this. Try calling them and also writing goodwill letters. Just be really nice about requesting this and you should be okay.

Best of luck!

THEY won't consider recon of late payments through the mail as they don't recon applications it's part of their strategy. They used to do it before 2008, with the 2009 Card act they changed. I gave you a tip and this will work with almost any bank. If the letter does not work(which most probably won't) and if the bank won't approve you for the mortgage because of that 30 day late (which I think they will approve) then I gave you the best chance you have to get it fixed. Reiner they are here to make money off you not to help you.

Remember CSR's ask why we're you late and if the person calling does not say keywords they are looking for then they won't be able to waive fees since calls are recorded. Dishonest or not it depends on the persons moral if they do it or not. At least, when I worked in bank(cant say directly now but you may guess since I'm answering in this thread) we would help people with late fees and credit reports if it was after hours and end of month(no recording of calls).

Some will now understand why people have more success after hours with credit solutions (and if it's the end of the month) on CLI's.

That happens when you talk to probate, customer service won't ask for that since they want to help their customers with one call and not multiple calls. So every time the OP calls back for the late fee, the CSR's that helped him before are taken points off from their evaluation, It's called first call resolution.

Btw, what card was it that's he wanted to get the free ticket? Because GE mastercards are the only ones with concierge service, visa only have rental collision, Amex has purchase assurance only and discover Walmart or SAMs has no benefits from discover

I would hate to be denied a mortgage or suffer a higher APR due to an oversight. I have autopay setup on my my bills (min) just to prevent this from happening. With that being said, I still empathize with the OP 110%. In this case I too might result to unconventional measures. As was mentioned before, these banks are making money off of us. As long as there is no clear pattern of neglect either to GE or other accounts (if they happen to SP the OP's report) one would think they would have no issues removing the late. Just try to be as truthful as possible. If you happen to stretch the truth, at least have a plan in place to support your story with documentation.

It took me several months of sending GW letters to get my lates removed with HSBC. Give GECRB time to respond and they will usually send a letter of acceptance or denial. If they deny, try again. Try sending letters to multiple addresses to reach different people. Use online forms if they are available. Call the executive office if you can find the number. Keep trying until you can reach someone sympathetic who has the power to make it happen. Don't give up. It works. It took years off my rebuilding process.

@Anonymous wrote:

The CSR who called me to inform that I was late on payment waived the late fee. I should have asked for the reporting to Credit but didn't struck to me.
