Questions about AMEX 61 day increase

When i request the increase, do they do the soft pull right then and there or do they use one from earlier in the month? Just trying to find out if i need to pay my credit card off a few weeks before the pull or if i can pay it off and have a balance of 0 right before the pull. Thanks for answers

Fortunately not. American Express initiates soft pulls on Experian throughout the life of an open account with random frequency. During the first 60 days, it is not uncommon for Amex to have soft pulled at least 3-4 times. The CLI approval or denial will be based on the last soft pull before the CLI request and other factors like income/rent etc. A new hard pull or soft pull is not initiated when requesting the 3X CLI. If in doubt, get a copy of your Experian report and see when Amex issued a soft pull to gauge account statistics at that snapshot and request CLI accordingly. Post 186 explains how to get your experian report and check for soft pulls. If there are concerns that the overall utilization or Amex utilization was high during the last soft pull, it might be worth waiting a few more days and then applying for CLI after Amex has issued a new soft pull.

Amex does NOT increase an account's credit limit during the first 60 days after it has been OPENED, or for at least 6 months from the last credit limit increase. The key word here is OPENED aka the account creation date. There are a few ways to find out the exact date the account was opened.

Lexie, Where is the Cli button at .I have never asked for a CLI, and my BCP is 2 yrs old. I Login, go to account management and then manage credit limit. And then it gives me the option " Will my charges be approved" And the 2 options are : Cash or General Purchase. If i enter an amount higher than my CL, is this where the CLI comes in effect. MInd you this is my BCP and not a charge card. Thanks

Keep in mind that your reports don't immediately update when you pay the balance.

It doesn't always show up and not even often. If you are eligible for CLI request and no button is available, then just call the customer service number and choice the raise credit limit option. Other option is on main page of account there is a MORE ACCOUNT OPTIONS. I believe if you click on that, Increase Credit Line option will show up as well.

Between $750-900. My CL at the time was $9000. I didn't want the 3x cli. I just requested $6000, to get a nice even number and I was approved. Good luck!

It just means that your account was opened/created the same day that you were approved, which isn't the case everytime. Approval and activation days are not the benchmark dates for identifying eligibility for CLI, as mentioned earlier by SnackTrader and Lexie.

On my account home page, there is a line under the balance that says something like "available credit" and gives you the number. There's a little blue arrow next to it.

If you click on the arrow, it opens a little window. In the window is a clickie line for request an increase.
