Amex Costco Card

Is that a real AMEX? Unlike the Walmart Discovery with is really a GECRB card. If so is that the best way into AMEX. I havent pulled my scores recently but i should be high 600's across the board with 29% UTIL. Will be less the 25% in a week.

Yes TE Costco is backed by AMEX, and they recommend that you get your foot in the door by applying for a charge card for ex. Green, PRG, or Gold Card. But you dont have to if you feel that your credit is strong enough for an instant apporoval for a revolver. 600s seems to low for AMEX but YMMV some have gotten in with 650+, Anyone else have an experience to share?

I think the "easiest" way, based on methods seen here and personal experience, is to go for a charge card first. If I were you, app for a charge card of your choosing, it's been known that they have the same underwriting requirements. Then in January, app for the amex revolver you want because then you'll have some amex history, and if approved, you'll have full amex backdating on that card. It would show opened January 2013.

A charge card should be the easiest. Green or PRG I would recommend. It is much easier to get a revolver with them once you have established a relationship via charge card.

My scores shoudl all be in the 680's-690's. My goal is to get a BCP but if costco is the way to go, i may do that and just use it for gas.

Go apply for a Gold Premier Charge Card... If approved, go apply for a BCP, if approved... all done! if denied... charge on the gold for 3-6 months and apply for blue again! if you want blue, don't get costco, not going to be a big difference if any if you ask me on approvals.

I applied in store with 664ish and was a success for 5K. Then I went home and applied for Blue. Got the 7-10 day message and was approved for another 5K. My credit report has no negs and no late payments. I just fell off the grid for 10yrs and was in the rebuilding phase. Good luck!!

If you are going to apply, definitely do it at the warehouse. If you apply online it will be delayed until Amex can verify your membership.

For what it's worth...

I applied online today for a Costco TE AMEX. The screen kept doing the processing deal long enough for me to press the little help button... I ended up applying over the phone.. it took about 10-15 minutes the guy read the entire agreement I think. Finally, I was referred to another department where they asked a couple more questions, verified my phone number and had me hang up. They called me back around 30 seconds later and said I was approved. I asked what kind of CL and I think he said 3k, the guy had an accent. It seemed low to me, but this is the first AMEX card I've ever been approved for. My scores aren't all that great, EX is my best with EQ being my lowest. The fico scores I got today are EQ 669, TU 698, EX 748. Both TU and EX are from this site, the EQ is from the EQ site.

I live in CA, and have no clue yet what report they pulled. I hope this helps.

I agree with Creditaddict. The BCP is your best bet. I think they have a cash bonus promo if you don't already have an Amex. 6 percent cash back on groceries - cant beat it.
