Amex FR on a $1000 limit? Never filied 2006 taxes now what?

Got FR from Amex today on my $1000 limit sky miles. Problem is they want some form to check 2006 tax return but I am self employed and havent filed yet(dropping off 2006/2007 this week) Now being self employed I write off everything under the sun so it looks like I lose money every year. Am I screwed or what? Will they close my account? Thanks

Your not the first self employed amex cardholder... send them the taxes and let them dig through them.

oh yes they will close it no doubt if you don't proove them that you file taxes or your last bank statements they will close it. i used to have the charge card gold and 3 months after i got approved they cancel it.

Sorry to hear your dilema............. Hope it turns out well. BTW were you carrying a balance for long? have you asked for CLI? what do you think set the FR off?

Also why would they ask for 06 taxes instead of 07? I would think they want the most recent

how did you get an FR all of a sudden? don't you find it very random?

question for amex cardholders, have you veterans ever had an FR before? I mean like if you've had the card for over two or three years, have you ever had an FR just randomly thrown at you? care to share?

I'm no veteran by any means, but from what I've read here, they ought to rename the Delta Skymiles card to "F/R Me, Baby." (Sorry, Sports Center is on, and **bleep** Vitale is taking over my brain.)

Those who started with a Delta and swapped out for a Blue also seem vulnerable. This card just seems to scare the whee out of them.

edit to add: forgot about the Moby Richard phenomenon by the Lithium bleeper! FWIW, I didn't bless out Mr. Vitale; I just used his nickname.

Now you KNEW I'd take issue with this.

I think it's a chicken/egg question. I don't believe that having the Delta in and of itself leads to more FRs; instead, I think that those cardholders whose behavior leads to FR are more likely to have the Delta than any other card, simply because it's the easiest to get.

Unless you don't want to pay an AF and/or like the rewards programs on the CCs better.

All the carge cards have pretty hefty AFs, while many of the CCs are no AF.

I've been a charge card holder for many years. Never had any issues with them. They treat me fine. I am sorry to hear that people are going through this.

Sorry guys, thanks for the answers. I have paid in full last 2 payments but asked for a CLI 2 times in 60 days. Both declined. My EX score went up 60 points in the last 2 weeks so I figured what the heck. Also applied for Biz card. So that is probaly what brought it on. They can close it if they want. Card is only 7 months old and just got $7000 from US Bank

Since you got that US Bank CC with a $700 limit closing Amex shouldn't hurt you that much. But I think your FR was triggered by asking for CLIs and your recent applications for other CCs... Regardless, it sucks that Amex FR for no apparent reason.

Yeah it sucks but what can you do. $7000 not $700 so its ok plus last month got Home Depot Mastercard Biz for $10,100. I will give Amex the tax form anyway and if they want bank statements no problem but still all this on a $1000 limit? Blows my mind

I started with the amex green charge card in May '06. Then received pre-approval by mail for the blue credit card May '07 with a 10k CL. Began to receive the pre-approved upgrade to platinum charge online Jan '08, and after talking to cust svc a few times finally upgraded to the gold plus in Mar '08 (AF $150 w/5 addtl cards free). Good deal as the green was $80+30 addtl. Told the rep I would test it for a year and see how it goes, if it doesn't work out for me (better reward program), I will go back to my green. Also, while discussing the charge card upgrade, was able to lower my APR on the blue to 8.99%. A week or two after receiving the gold, while making payment on my blue I decided to hit the luv button; instant $5K increase. I think the best way to deal with amex is to let them tell you when they feel you are ready. Not the other way around. In the two years I've been a member, I've never had a FR. BTW, amex checks my credit report quarterly since I received the blue (9/07, 12/07, 3/08). I agree with what others have said, they are only monitoring your spend habits, as I just received another pre-approval in the mail today for another amex product. Very nice offer, but I am content with the two I have.

If they do me like that I will just B/T and close the thing. Dang all that for a CC. There are to many issuers out there to endure all that for a 1k limit. Gee Whizz!!

You should read my posts and hassle they gave me for my Delta Application. I hardly use my Amex Platinum for a cup of coffee once in a while.
