I'm 200 away from a 5k line with Chase (currently 4.8k) to be eligble for a VISA Signature. My account will also be a year old next month--required age for visa siggy. I'm trying to get a CLI via soft pull but Chase wants to HP me for 200 bucks...suggested course of action?

Account currently has a 4k balance (0% APR)

Account in good standing

Opened 2012

CLs since opening: 3k >> 4.5k >> 4.8k >> auto CLIs

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't want to waste a HP for $200 bucks. Might as well apply for another Chase Card like the CSP and then if you get approved move $200 over to the Freedom and ask to make it a Visa Signature?

I know they'll let you transfer limits, but from your sig it doesn't look like you have any other Chase Cards.

Personally, I'd just wait for another auto CLI and then try for the conversion. There's no guarantee that the conversion will be approved. I saw a post of someone with a 12k limit being denied. It would suck to waste a hard pull for a CLI and then be denied the conversion.

You might want to verify with Chase that they will change the card to a Visa Signature when you hit 5000. I have a 7000 credit limit on my Freedom and its not a Signature. It was a PC from another (non-signature) Chase card about a year ago though. Best of luck!

^. Exactly!

A$5k CLI is no guarantee of signature status. Plus, even though you are on a 0% APR, your util is high. I'd suggest inquiring if your eligible before the HP

True. I'm probably at 90% usage with this card right now. Chase seems to only auto CLI when I carry a large balance tho. I'm gonna pay this balance off in two months tho. I will definitely call again. I called once before and they told me the only criteria was one year credit with their card and a 5k limit. Do they limit the number of VISA siggys they allow? Or is there a certain credit criteria they look for before they upgrade?

I wouldn't think Visa Signature would be something you need certain credit score or criteria to get. As far as I know, my profile was borderline, I was suprised to even get approved for the Freedom a few weeks ago, with only a high 600's Fico, and 27 lates on my credit report. And I got approved for a $5K Freedom Signature and a $6K CSP Signature. I had 2 cards with them, but they had limits of $250 & $300. I had those since 2006 and 2007 though and have had my checking with them for probably 4-5 years now, so that probably helped.

I've gone back and forth with this issue and just can't convince myself upgrading the Freedom and a CLI are worth an HP. My other cards grow with regular use or SPs so it's just not going to happen.

If it's really worth a temporary score dip and HP hanging around two years, pull the trigger.

As someone posted above: OP could apply for another Chase Product, move over some of the limit, and hope they will upgrade you to a signature account. Decreasing one's AAOA, another HP, and taking on an unwanted card seems like a pretty big commitment.

I started with a $5k cl on my freedom in 07/2012. It did not start out as a Signature even though I was told it was. I have called them twice iirc to inquire about getting it changed over to the Signature. One rep told me six months; that wasn't true; one rep toldme after a year; that isn't true.
The last rep whom I spoke with in the past week simply explained it wasn't possible ans that I'd need to app for a new card.
Really??!?
Chase is on my s*** list atm. -.-

One rep told me six months; that wasn't true; one rep toldme after a year; that isn't true.
The last rep whom I spoke with in the past week simply explained it wasn't possible ans that I'd need to app for a new card.
Really??!?
Chase is on my s*** list atm. -.-

Then where is the application for the Signature version? The agent's suggestion doesn't make sense unless they could tell you where to aply for the Freedom Signature version.

I think a lot of people, who presumably don't do a lot of travelling, use Freedom as a pure cashback card, using the 5% categories, and, with a chase checking account, getting a 10% bonus at the end of the year and an extra card isn't that appealing.

Of course, those who can should get it anyway for the $400 sign up, even if they cancel/downgrade after the first year.

And I can't justify spending 95 a year for the CSP...I use Chase Freedom purely for cashback b/c I redeem my UR points on purchases and earn even more points to use for future purchases or statement credits. And since I have a checking relationship with them...I get 10%.
