Chase gift cards

Hey guys,

I went to a Chase branch today to buy gift cards. However, the teller tells me that the Chase branches no longer sell gift cards. I asked if this is only affecting their branch, and she said, "No, all Chase branches will not be selling gift cards anymore."

Do you think she knows what she's talking about? Anyways I went ahead and bought it online.

If you guys must know, I'm using this method to meet the spending on my United Explorer card. I only want the bonuses and have no desire to use the card at all.

On a side note, I received my BCP. 12.99% APR!

I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if they can backdate to my 2011 AU card opening date.

I do this every month. You are free to buy up to $2,600 with each Chase card that you have. People buying more than that have been shown to get shut down. You also must spend on every day things in order for this to be successful. They are going to be looking at your first couple statements more than others, so make sure you spread the gift cards around..

FYI this will stop after September 22nd. Unfortunately it's coming to an end.

Anyways thanks for the concern. I will take it easy and spread out all of the gift cards in the 3 month period. If they evoke my gift card buying rights, I'll just put some spending on the card...

Congrats on the BCP approval! I received the same APR as well. I didn't think I would get the lowest adverstised APR, but I did.

Then you are totally fine! I don't think you're playing with fire at all.... Many people, including my parents and I, do wayyyy more than that throughout all of our Chase cards and have not had any issues. And, I guess, will not as they are ending soon.

FWIW: In general, on other MS activities, this has never been shown to help prevent AA. The banks, if they choose, look at "bad" behavior and don't weigh it against the "good." In other words, if I buy $10K worth of gift cards on 4 chase cards per month for several months, previous history shows that I am as likely to be shut down whether this is my only spending or if I spend $30K on other proper purchases as well.

Now Chase may be different this time, but I would be surprised!
