No More Freedom/Slate Visa Sigs??!!!

Just got off the phone with a Chase CSR because I was trying to upgrade my 1.5yr old Freedom to a Visa Sig. After being denied through the system and saying that I wasn't qualified, I asked to be transfered to a specialist regarding such matters.

He told me that the reason that I couldn't upgrade my Freedom was because Chase's contract with Visa is now trying to limit only the Sapphires to Visa Sig status and keep the Freedom/Slate as non-signature versions. Those who already have a visa sig, he said, would be fine and Chase wouldn't touch those, but that no one else will be receiving visa sig freedoms/slates from now on.

Can anyone else confirm this? Perhaps this is why so many of us who have Freedoms over 13 months old with $5k+ limits are not allowed to upgrade. I'm not entirely sure about this because I thought I read a thread the other day where someone was approved for a Freedom siggy?

I haven't heard that and I just called Chase the other day to inquire about upgrading my Freedom to a siggy.

If this is true it's a very new policy, as I just got my Freedom 3 weeks ago and it's a Visa Signature.

Email their Executive Office to find out for sure. On several occassions I've had CSRs tell me stuff that wasn't even remotely true (mostly at FIA) just to get me to go away. I'd take it with a grain of salt. Wouldn't it be in Chase's own best interest to issue as many Signature cards as they can? After all, can't they charge higher swipe fees on those?

Unless it's a new policy, I would venture to check into a bit further either through their EO or twitter support channels. I can see this being applicable for the Slate product but not for Freedom.

Just out of curiosity, I just called and requested an upgrade to Signature on mine. The very sexy-sounding female CSR told me I'd get a response in the mail in 7-10 business days. I asked her if it was true that Chase was no longer upgrading Freedom cards to Signature status and she said she hadn't heard anything about that.

I was given a Freedom with a 5k initial limit. It is odd that Chase didn't issue it as a visa sig.

When? I got approved for mine on 8/20/13 for $5K and it was Signature. Then CSP on 8/21 and also Signature ($6,200). And I was surprised to get approved for both and at those limits, only had low limit cards before, sub 700 FICO with many lates in my history so it's not like I had a rocking profile.

My Slate was apped and approved on 6/5/13, for around 7k ( i forget the exact amount, since I called to ha the CL reconsidered). My Slate is *not* a signature.

Yeah it seems some people have still been upgrading their Freedoms to siggy so I'm not sure if this is a new policy or he just made that up? If I try contacting the EO office tomorrow I'll let you guys know what they say!

I requested an upgrade through secure messages earlier this week. I was told that I needed a minimum of $5000 CL before they could process my request. I consolidated my credit limits from my other Chase cards to meet the requirement for the Visa Signature and submitted another request. On Wednesday morning, I got a call asking for my income, and the upgrade was approved on the spot.

I got Visa Freedom on 4.5k first week in September 2013

and also Visa Slate few days ago with 3.2k limit.

And I also got an initial limit of $5k on Freedom
But then it wasn't a Visa Siggy

I think we are stuck on the '$5k CL -it must be a siggy ' train of thought. When processing your application, it would first be reviewed for Signature status and if not acceptable then processed as a platinum Visa.

The CC CSRs are sometimes inconsistent with their responses. But the CSP reps are elite and can assist you with other chase CC's as well. Not sure if you have one, but if you do def call them for any of your Chase inquiries.

I'm not sure what you've asked them to do, but I've always had good service when I ring in and need something. They're always extremely nice asking if I have plans for the weekend or holiday if one is coming up. I understand everyone's experiences differ, but I don't recall ever having a bad experience. Pretty much every lender people talk about has had customer service representatives give different answers. Although, to me it's unacceptable and should be remedied.

As 09Lexie said, 5000 does not equal being a Signautre or World Mastercard. I'm unsure as to what else they look for, but they look at other things to determine if you're "good enough" for it you could say. In my opinion, there isn't much benefit to having either of them. I asked for upgrades just to do it; I never use the"benefits" that the cards offer.
