alright, Chase Freedom or Amex BCE

I have a Cap1 QuickSilver (waiting for it to arrive) just upgraded my account from a PC to QS still no CLI tho after 3 years, waiting on letter to see why.

I have a Amex Delta (waiting for it to arrive applied 9/26) Im excited to get my 50k bonus miles after spending the 1k in 3 months.

My question is, should I go for a Chase Freedom, I know they swap there reward catergories every 3 months and gas is 5% for 6 of the 12 months, which is def nice cause I drive for work, we eat out sometimes, and hit the movies up a little as well. Im leaning towards the BCE since its a solid 2% on gas all year long, and 3% on groceries and 1% on anything else, I just feel as the chase freedom gives me restrictions and right now I just got married and have no plan for kids in the near future (2-3 years Im thinking)

what do you suggest apply for the Amex BCE down the road, reason I would do it down the road is so I can take advantage of there offer, since Ill need to spend 1k on Delta for the miles in 3 months.

I seem to have gotten a preapproval for the Chase Freedom, but I just couldnt finish the process for some reason.

Get the freedom. Especially if you want to eventually get the CSP. Wait on the BCE until Jan then you can backdate it to Jan 2013.

I would think about BCP instead of BCE if you buy groceries and fair amount of gas. It should make up for the annual fee, but thats up to you. If you could i would try and get both BCE/BCP and freedom.

If you are considering a BCE instead of BCP, then you probably don't spend a huge amount on Grocery/Gas. In that case consider the Sallie Mae World Mastercard.

5% cash back on Grocery ($250/mo cap), 5% on Gas ($250/mo cap), 5% on Book Stores ($750/mo cap):

BankAmericard Cash Rewards gives you 3% on gas and 2% on groceries. US Bank Cash+ is another great option (my next app in April).

Yeah! Get the BCP if you decide Amex. Im regretting getting BCE and not BCP. Can't pc for 12 months either heh.
Also, I'd wait til right after your first 3xcli on Amex Delta then app for the second Amex as to get max credit lines :-) just my .02

If you wait 61 days for your first amex CLI I would strongly encourage you to hold out the extra few weeks until Jan to get max back dating. Since its later in the year I would really encourage you not to go for another amex until Jan unless you absolutely need it now for some reason.

Well I did the chase freedom. Got 1500 approved. Waiting for that in the mail, I will garden my cap1 and fp, and I will use the delta amex and let the wife use the chase, so we both get the rewards and in jan I will apply for the bcp, I fill up once every 7-10 days easily and buy groceries quite often.

Why will the amex backdate to jan 2013 if I get it jan 2014??
Also what will the Amex Delta backdate too?

Congrats

The Amex you get next year will reflect the year your first card was approved

The reason people apply in Jan. is if approved that card would reflect 1/2013

If Feb. 2/2013 and so on so on for whatever month you are approved

No if the Delta is your first card it will not backdate. However, any new amex obtained in Jan 2014 or Jan of following years can be backdated to Jan 2013 as that is the first year you were an amex member.

I'd like to do a BT of 2200 and still not be maxed out for utilization, so hoping for a 3500 limit if possible.

Well didn't ask for a CLI, but I did apply for the CSP (I was feeling good) and I got approved for a 5k limit. I finally got to 5k!!!!

Question now would be should I try applying for a BCE from amex in Jan?

Congrats on the CSP. As stated earlier, wait until you have gotten the 3x CLI and right around the first of a Jan app for the BCE.

I still would love to get the CLI on the freedom to 3500, so I can balance transfer the cap1 and fp to one card. Do you think I have a better chance of a CLI now that I got approved for a CSP.

No chances are the same

Just so you are aware every call with Chase is logged so the next person will see that you called and were told no from the last call just an FYI

I would stop poking that bear and let it sleep just my opinion tho
