im my personal experience that message was not a decline. i thought it was possibly due to my 60 inqs on each bureau, but when i called in to check on my status, the cs rep told me she was transferring me to a senior analyst. i for sure thought it was gonna be about my inqs. when she got on the phone she verified my income and mailing address and told me congrats and welcome to discover .

I got the same message and called the number to "expedite processing". I was asked about my baddies, then told I can't quality for the 0% intro. rate but I could be approved at a higher annual rate. Then she asked if I would be interested in that and I was like "h**l yeah!" (j/k). Then she told me "Welcome to Discover" also. So it's not necessarily a denial.

I've obtained multiple cards this year and everyone except one was an instant and every single one of them was approved. I just think it's unneccesary worry just because you get a message saying they need more time. I had two instant with American Express and three "in progress" applications. Chase, one was instant and the other five were "we need more time". One of those just needed verification and it was instant after that, so a human didn't look at it. It's just better to be optimistic about it then to automatically assume it means the worst.
