I tried to backdate the Amex BCP i just received in the mail today, but apparently they won't let me. What is the exact process i should be doing to go about doing it. I used to have an Amex Green card that i was an au on with my father when i got out of high school. Is it possible to backdate to that date or did i misunderstanding the backdating process?

The key to backdating is to ask for your "member since date" to be set to when you first had a card. Don't say anything about backdating. If that doesn't work, you might need to talk to the credit reporting group at AMEX. This group might need your original card number in order to validate your original date.

Before doing any of this, you might want to check your member since date online. This date will often times be the correct backdated date while the card will be the current year.

First of all, do not use the term backdate. Call and tell them you noticed that your MSD was incorrect. You were an ACM back in blah blah blah. They should put you on hold and look it up, if they cannot find you they will submit a request to have it researched.

Edit: OhioCPA beat me to it : smileywink:

You should be fine. The first card back with Amex is often cut before they have applied the correct member since date.

I applied for three Amex cards the same week in 2010. The first card came dated 2010, the other two were backdated to 1986. All three reported as opened in 1986. I did get a nice score boost from the backdating.

I have an AMEX card that I got in May and I was able to have it backdated to 2009 MSD but after 4 reporting cycles it still shows as 5/2013 open date on my credit reports.

My login shows 2009 MSD and they did send me a new card with the 2009 date.

I was planning to call AMEX credit reporting dept to see if I can get the CR to match the 2009 date. Im just not sure exactly what to say when I call.

Was thinking along the lines of.....my new card, account number so and so has my correct member since date but for some reason the reporting on my CR is not reflecting this accurately. Can you adjust the credit reporting for this card so that it accurately reflects my member since date?

Is that an appropriate way to ask?

Lexie, no this is an AU account. They backdated my AU account to my MSD from my Platinum Business Card.

I had my sister add me as an AU with the hope that I would get the benefit of the backdating. I dont have the the profile yet to qualify for my own personal AMEX. Still trying to understand all the ins and outs of backdating.

If I cant get the CR reporting to reflect the 2009 date then I would be better of just removing myself as an AU an dperhaps I will still be able to hold on to the 2009 MSD for when I do get my own AMEX. If I remove myself as an AU will that remove/delete the reporting from my CR or do I need to also take more steps to get it removed?

@IWOL

The backdating on CR's is reserved for primary cardmembers. Removing yourself now will not remove it from your CRs. In the future, Amex accounts opened will show as being opened with the month you actually opened them, and 13 as the year. So a new card opened in February 2014 will show as having been opened in February 2013. As a result, the way to maximize your AAoA & backdating in the future would be to open new amex accounts early in the year.
