Chase inactive account question

How long will Chase typically leave inactive accounts open? I don't want my account closed without warning.

I asked the same question to one the CSR @ chase when I was questioning them about upgrading my Freedom to a siggy, I was "told" (YMMV) that they wouldn't close the account if it had been used at least once in the year that it was to expire.

Time to use it for gum IMHO I wouldn't wait until the year mark but generally yes a year before they will close

Going to use it within the next couple weeks. Thoughtabout moving some of the limit over to another card. Since iit's not a card I will really ever be using but I'd rather not close the account.

Expiration date may be the trigger. My Freedom card had been inactive since Nov. 2010. I received a letter from Chase in March 2013 saying that my card was due to expire in 2 months and since I hadn't used it in 2 years, they were going to close it unless I called to keep it open.

BUT ( and this is where YMMV comes in), this was a very old account with a decent CL of 25.5K, so not sure if this is their standard procedure.

I have a similar question. I have heard it said that with most CC that have and annual fee, the issuer is less likely to close due to inactivity. Any truth to this rumor?

An AF is activity. So yes, a card with an AF would be less likely to close due to inactivity.

Also a card that has an AF, makes up for the non-zero servicing charge associated with even an unused account. When dealing with accounts on the order of a Chase, an Amex, or a BOFA, that adds up and is more likely to be a factor in a purge.

That's what i was hoping. I was thinking that an annual fee would be "free" money to the issuer and they would like to keep that going.

i talkedt o underwriting today about this very subject since i have no intention of using the mastercard side of my militarystar card. you have a 24 mont period before they close your account due to inactivity.
